Book Week

Book Week

Thank you to everyone who helped our students celebrate that “Reading is magic” during Book Week.

It was wonderful to see the excitement that the various activities generated during the week, and many classes will continue their Library class activities up to the end of term. Staff value the fact that the timeframe to “finish” is more generous than most school projects.

All classes enjoyed a creative project relating to either the Book Week theme, "Reading is magic" or one of the shortlisted books, "The concrete garden. Grade 4-6 will be looking at what the AI component of Canva creates under their instruction, after creating their own fantasy world or portal on paper. The Foundation to Grade 3 students have started creating a garden on paper. In groups of up to 6 students they get a few minutes to work on part of the garden and then hand the paper onto the next child to their left. They are experiencing the highs and lows of group work with this project. It should be finished this week.

We enjoyed the best of last week’s weather for our Book character parade on the Tuesday. It was lovely to see so many different dress ups. I was very impressed with your dress up ideas, including those students who followed my suggestion to use just a couple of props to suggest their character, along with a copy of the front cover of the character's book on a lanyard.

On Wednesday, Foundation to Grade 2 students listened to a new children's author, Antoinette Pellegrini, read her new book, and talk about her path from inspiration to writing and publishing "Sandcastles". The order form for this book is attached, if you would like to purchase a copy. It will be delivered to the school before the end of term.

After our second-hand book sale on Thursday at Lunch, where we saw lines of students waiting with great excitement and much patience, we were able to donate $294.20 to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, https://www.indigenousliteracyfoundation.org.au/

A special thanks to our Library Captains – Bonnie, Luella and Eden for helping with the Parade and Book sale during Book Week.
