This Week At OOPS
Year 3 Camp
Wednesday, we woke up really nervocited (a mixture of nervous and excited) to go on our first camp!!! First, we said goodbye to our parents then we hopped on the bus, it felt like ten years going to camp. After a 40 minute drive we arrive at Gundiwindi Lodge.
We are told by the teachers to take a seat and wait for camp instructors to arrive. Once the 2 camp instructors arrived, we were told who was in our cabin and who were in the activity groups. Everyone was very happy to see their friends in their cabin.
The activities were: flying fox, low ropes course, making damper, archery, survival skills, trivia, night walk and trampolines. We would do two activities on Wednesday and four on Thursday, each activity group would have a chance to do each activity. The night walk and trivia were held at night every activity group did it at the same time.
On Thursday the teachers woke us up at 7.30 and we got dressed, ready for the day ahead. First we ate breakfast then we got stuck into the 2 activities for the second day, Thursday.
After the first 2 activities we ate lunch and had an 80 minute free play and got ready for the next 2 activities. After the next 2 activities it was time for dinner on Thursday we had pasta night and after that we had the night walk.
On Friday we were woken up early by the teachers, the grade 3s were packing their bags to go to Redwood Forest. We were scheduled to spend an hour there each group was to spend some time there exploring. Once everyone had a turn at exploring the Redwood Forest, we had a quick lunch and left for home it was an 1.30 hour bus trip but it was worth it we all gave our parents a big hug and finally went home.
The best part of camp was the flying fox because it helps you step out of your comfort zone and it’s fun. For me the best part of camp was the night walk because I liked seeing animals in the dark. For me damper was my Favorite because you got to cook the damper on the fire.
Special thanks to all of the amazing adults who made this possible, from Sheree’s organisation skills to the parent helpers Clint, Sarah and Kaye, preservice teacher Joey and in the middle of production it was great to see Rhiannon take some time out to join us. We also thank Milly, Mandy and Craig for their support on camp.

Year 2 Koonung Creek Walk
On Monday 2AT, 2OF and 1/2GA headed off on an adventure to walk the Koonung Creek Trail. Linking to our Inquiry unit about local environments and animals, students collected data about what they saw on the walk, which they will then use in our lessons later in the term. We saw some interesting bird life, insects, native trees and plants, along with members of the community and signs that helped us keep safe. A big thank you to our parent/carer helpers who gave their time to share this experience with us: Daniel, Fonnie, Deanna (1/2GA), Fran (2AT) and Jess (2OF).
This week in Maths the Year 1s have been counting bags full of interesting objects, such as ooshies, pen lids, footy cards and much more! They have been working in partners to first estimate how many objects in their bag, and then sort the objects into small piles of 2, 5 and 10. Students have then been using their skills in skip counting to work out how many objects there are altogether, with some bags having more than 300 items! Well done Grade 1s!
