Faith & Mission Report

“True community does not come about all at once.

It grows by God's grace and the constant effort of each member.

It needs to be built up each day into a community of faith and love, by prayer and the Eucharist, by listening to and sharing the Word of God.

At the same time, it needs to be built up as a human community, knit together by relationships, where each member brings their talents and knows that they are recognized, accepted, heard, encouraged and challenged.” MSC Constitution #33

From time to time, it is good to revisit the MSC Constitution to remind ourselves what makes Monivae different from other schools. Our biggest point of difference, is of course, our Catholic faith in the MSC tradition. Having the opportunity to pray together, sharing our faith in liturgy, and building relationship both school wide and MSC wide, are all fundamental features of our College.

We offer our staff an opportunity to build these relationships by offering staff formation. Last week, Ms Sarah Byron attended Love the Heart of Creation at Douglas Park. Staff members from Daramalan College Canberra, Chevalier College Bowral and Downlands College Toowoomba were also in attendance. This formation helps our staff imbed our spirituality in all aspects of Monivae, not just in the classroom.

In Week 8, our staff who have joined us since the beginning of the year, and our Leadership team, will get the opportunity for Formation from the Chevalier Institute. All formation around Spirituality of the Heart is important for our staff and students.

In what is a feast day for Catholics all around the world, last week we celebrated the Feast of the Assumption. The Assumption is a special day when we remember how at the end of her life Mary was taken up to heaven to be with God.

Mary is very special because she was chosen by God to be the mother of God’s son, Jesus. And Mary says yes to all that God asks of her.

Mary was a very humble, poor girl. But she was chosen to be the mother of God’s son, Jesus. And as God loves those who are humble, we are also called to love those who are poor.

We can help make sure we listen to those who are poor and work together with them to make the world a fairer place.

We can play our part in making sure that all people have enough food to eat – that anyone who is hungry is filled with good things.  One way we can do this is through our annual Tinnies for St Vinnies appeal where we provide cans of food (spaghetti, stew, soup, baked beans etc) to our local St Vincent de Paul to help feed those in need of help.

Tins collection boxes can be found in the basement, library, Year 7 and Year 12 locker area.

Another way we continue to do this at Monivae is to provide lunch at the local Uniting Church lunches, something we have been doing every month. This time is much appreciated by all involved.

With Mission Fair Day fast approaching at the end of term. This special day, which is our major fundraising day for the year, sees all funds raised going towards supporting others. We are reminded that we are part of the MSC Heart, and it is our role to 'Be on earth the heart of God'.
