SPOTLIGHT

YEAR 1

Term 3 has been filled with so many highlights already! From special days celebrating our beloved grandparents and fathers or special people, to Book Week Dress Up Day and Town Library visits; all of these add to the value of our learning and community in Year 1. Our students loved creating their beaded Father’s Day keyrings with their Year 5 buddies, as well as enjoying a morning in the sun reading with their buddy on Book Week Dress Up Day.

Our learning in Science has led to experiments where we have been looking at changes in materials, such as how ice melts. In English, we spent time looking at our model text of Jack and the Beanstalk. We learnt how to tell the story with actions in order to help us sequence the events, as well as include aspects of VCOP. The children have really enjoyed this unit on imaginary narratives and this was evident in the wonderful writing that they did in their recent Big Writes about “The Curious Creatures in the Forest”. We are learning about division in maths at the moment, with students working out how to share and group items equally. Some students are stretching their understanding to include remainders. Year 1 students also enjoyed using different informal measurements to calculate the area of things.

We look forward to the rest of the term with all of the exciting learning opportunities that lie ahead!
