Ulverstone Campus News

Book Week

Our annual Book Week at our Ulverstone campus, was a spectacular celebration of literature and imagination. Students and staff alike showcased their creativity by dressing up as their favourite characters from beloved stories, transforming the campus into a vibrant tapestry of literary heroes. The highlight of the event was the grand display in the library, where a towering giant from "Jack and The Beanstalk" made a stunning appearance.

This impressive. larger-than-life figure not only captured the essence of the classic tales but also added a magical touch to the already remarkable library. And without monkeying around, our Circus in the reception area greeted everyone with its festive carnival-like atmosphere lending to the theme that Reading is Magic that transports us to faraway places.

Reggie Dabbs Seminar at Leighland Ulverstone

Reggie is a part of the “iDecide School Tour” for 2024. Travelling across Australia, Reggie is one of the world’s most sought-after youth communicators. We held a session with Reggie in the afternoon of Monday 2 September for Year 6 to 10 students at the Ulverstone Campus.

The seminar was packed with humour, music and loads of real talk, and encouraged building resilience and making positive choices. There was lots of fun and laughter as Reggie played the saxophone for students and told his personal story of perseverance. He challenged students to make the most of every opportunity and to be kind to one another. Students leave the iDECIDE Tour having decided to not focus on their past, but to look at changing their future.

Outdoor Education

Outdoor Education Highlights: Learning, Teamwork, and Fun in Nature! 🌿

Our Outdoor Education program has been a blast this semester! Here's what we've been up to:

Navigation Skills: Students are learning to use natural landmarks and topographical maps to explore the outdoors.

Elevation Exploration: Understanding how elevation affects the environment helps students plan routes and navigate terrains they are learning about.

Beach Adventures: At the beach, students built shelters and created ball runs, learning how to adapt and utilise natural landscapes.

Teamwork and Problem Solving: Through these hands-on activities, students are building teamwork skills and solving problems together, making the most of the natural environment.

Our students are having a great time connecting science with nature, developing skills, and enjoying the outdoors.

Chocolate Winter Fest

Recently eleven of our Year 9-12 students from Design and Technologies classes in Textiles entered the Chocolate Winterfest “Chocolate Wonders of Wearable Art Competition” held in Latrobe. Each student designed and created their own piece of wearable art that was displayed in the shops of the main street of Latrobe over the winter festival period. We are excited to share that Hannah Grey’s outfit ‘Lindt Glamour’ won the Judges choice award for the competition. Congratulations to Hannah for her award, and to all of our entrants for the amazing effort they have put into creating their wearable art outfits over the past months.
