Book Week Celebration with Arepas – Friday, 23 August

As part of Book Week, students in Grades 1 and 2 will have the exciting opportunity to read an adaptation of the book *"What Does the Moon Taste Like?"* in Spanish. Through this story, they will explore the themes of animals and feelings, while also making connections to the phases of the moon, which Grade 1 students are currently studying.

To enhance this cultural experience, Joize (Mia and Miranda’s mum) and Señor Toni will be preparing traditional Venezuelan arepas, symbolising the moon. These will be offered to all students and staff who would like to try them. The ingredients used in making the arepas are corn flour (not wheat flour), salt, butter and water. More information about the main ingredient can be found :(https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/439724/pan-white-corn-flour).

If you do not want your child to have an arepa, please email me by Friday at Antonio.cantocastello@education.vic.gov.au.

If you would like to be part of this activity and learn how to prepare arepas, join us! We will be preparing arepas in the school kitchen from 1:20 p.m. Please email me if you're interested.

We look forward to this enriching activity and encourage everyone to participate and enjoy the celebration of reading and learning!

PHYSICAL EDUCATION NEWS

ATHLETICS CARNIVAL

Well done to our whole community for a very rewarding athletics carnival last Thursday. Our preps showed us a great team spirit. Our year ones joined in with enthusiasm and showed perseverance. The year twos experienced running on the famous lakeside track in preparation for next year when in year 3. The 3-6 students experienced many emotions that come with athletics, the highs, the lows, the laughter, the humility and the excitement and most importantly the strengthening bonds within their house teams. I can almost guarantee that these are the days they will remember forever. I still have my athletics ribbons from my primary school athletics carnival.

A huge thank you to all the teachers and ES staff for an amazing effort in giving every student the opportunity to compete.

Thank you to Amanda McConaghy who plays a huge role in ensuring that student placings, times and distances are recorded accurately and in coordinating the parent volunteers.

A huge thank you to the wonderful parents who give up their time in making this day happen for all the students.

We had the pleasure of a guest from the VIS Anthony Jordan a para-athlete, with his main discipline being 100m. Anthony represented Australia in the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The results are in and have been cross checked across the age groups and district requirements.

Congratulations to the below students who will represent our school at the Southport District Athletics Carnival at Lakeside Stadium on Friday 6th September. Students that are listed will receive a compass notification that will require consent to be given in order to attend.
