Recycled Art Weeks 5-10 Term 2

Firstly, special thanks to Ms Angela Stephenson who worked with all of our classes in the last six weeks of Term 2  while I was on leave. Angela is a local artist and teacher who specialises in creating art using a range of recycled materials. She is passionate about the environment and sustainability. We were very fortunate to have Angela teach students how to make a recycled artwork using cable ties. Please browse through the photos to see some of our students’ wonderful efforts.

Music/Dance Term 3

With the Paris Olympics finishing two weeks ago, the Paralympics about to start  and Sports Day coming up, we have a sports related theme happening in our music and dance units of work this term.

Castle Unit classes have been exploring fast and slow tempos in music using movement with scarves and ribbons to support this learning. They have been singing  and dancing to an Olympic song to the tune of Old McDonald. Some of the students have played tuned bells and chime bars as accompaniment. In the last three weeks, classes will be using Sports Day colours to learn beginner music notation. Mr Ta ( crotchet) and Mrs TiTi ( quaver) will be introduced.

Students in both Holly and Stilwell Units have participated in playing cup percussion rhythm patterns to the song, Surfin’ USA by The Beach Boys. They are currently trying some basic moves in breakdancing and will learn about two other elements of hip hop- beatboxing and rapping. They will attempt to rap and make beatbox sounds to a nursery rhyme of their choice then record their efforts using GarageBand.

Choir

The HEPS Choir has been working extremely hard on Thursday afternoons to learn the repertoire of songs for the Southern Metropolitan Music Festival concert. This concert will be held on the night of Thursday 7th November at Woodcroft Revival Fellowship Centre since the Hopgood Theatre is undertaking some renovations. A huge thank you goes out to Miss Hay who did an amazing job taking over the Choir coordinator role for 9 weeks in my absence. Miss Hay also spent many lunch and recess times on Thursdays preparing students for solo auditions. Six Choir members attended these auditions and we commend Charlotte Allen, Clare Skelding, Nyah Davidson, Lily Hay, Oceana Davies and Savannah Patterson for their courage, skill and effort. Lily and Oceana were successful in their audition and will sing their solos at the concert. Congratulations, girls!

Hackham Has Talent

I encourage all of our students to start thinking about auditioning early next term for Hackham Has Talent which will be held on the final day of Term 4. Looking forward to seeing a variety of acts – dancing, singing, joke telling, magic tricks, playing an instrument, acting, puppet plays and more!
