Our SSP Leader Renee Lane will be on Long Service Leave for Term 3 (this was scheduled prior to Renee commencing her role in 2024). Susie Robinson will be Acting SSP Leader for Term 3 and we wish her all this best throughout the Term!

Team Selection Process for Tournaments and Competitions

It is an exciting time for WHC with over 530 students in our Specialist Sports Program. However, this also creates complexities around team selection for tournaments and competitions. It is simply not possible for all student-athletes to be selected.

Please understand that although student-athletes are a part of the SSP, this does not guarantee automatic entry to any WHC interschool or representative team. Head coaches are responsible for team selection and any factors contribute to this process, including; skill, ability, team dynamics, effort, behaviour and attendance.

We know that non-selection can be difficult for parent-carers, but we thank you for your understanding and support of our program and all student-athletes, whilst we move in to a heavy phase of competition over the next three terms.

Herald Sun Shield

What an experience it was for our Intermediate Boys to represent the school in the prestigious Herald Sun Shield last week in Port Melbourne. We came up against a strong, fit and experienced team from St.Kevin's (Toorak) who played a great contest across the four quarters.Whilst it wasn't our best performance, the experience will prove invaluable for the boys as they progress in their football.

Soccer

The Dream of holding the Bill Turner Cup trophy is now over for Western Heights U/15 team, after a narrow defeat by Illawarra Sports High School 2-1 in Albury on Wednesday morning.

After leading 1-0 curtesy of a well-constructed goal, Western Heights would soon see their lead gone after the referee awarded Illawarra Sports High a penalty. Western Heights goalkeeper Jobe Davies would brilliantly save the penalty only to be told he moved illegally by the assistant referee. Illawarra would convert the second penalty to level the score at 1-1. Western Heights were evidently deflated as a result of the decision to have the penalty retaken and would concede minutes later to fall behind 2-1.

The second half was much the same as the final minutes of the first half with Western Heights not being able to regain the same focus and composure of the majority of the first half. Coach Joey Didulica praised the gallant effort of the boys and expressed the massive achievement it is to make it to the final 8 schools in Australia. “ To have narrowly lost today to an exceptional team and obviously well-resourced school is no shame. The boys have worked extremely hard at their game day in and day out. These boys are an asset to our school and have represented Western Heights College on the National scale. They are to be commended.”
