MEDIA NIGHT
On Tuesday 8 October 2024, at the Alan Lawrence Theatre, McKinnon Secondary College hosted the annual Media Night for 2024. This yearly event acknowledges and celebrates the incredible creative works of both the Year 11 and Year 12 Media students.
This special evening enables students to showcase the fruits of their extensive efforts throughout the year amongst McKinnon students, staff, family and friends. It was a fabulous night again this year, with many different media products on display, including print products in the main foyer, and a screening of both Year 11 and Year 12 short films in the theatre.
Throughout the night, attendees ate fresh popcorn as they perused the various media artworks, and watched as various Year 12s were presented with awards, Oscars style. As a Year 11 media student, it was wonderful to see the impressive achievements of the Year 12 students who showcased their final products on the night. There were a number of awards given out to Year 12 students for their creative accomplishments.
The award recipients are as follows:
- Best Picture - Tunes of Time: Andrea Maramis
- Best Cinematography - O Sailor: Jade Perzuck
- Best Narrative – Ichor: Areia Snell
- Best Print Production – Aera: Naomi Fowler
- The People’s Choice award – Tunes of Time: Andrea Maramis
It was fantastic to see a variety of awards for all types of achievements, like cinematography and narrative, as well as awards given to different types of media products, because it’s easy to forget that there are many forms other than film.
Aside from the awards, watching everyone's incredible work was also very exciting and quite inspiring, especially as a Year 11 Media student entering year 12 very soon. It was also really fun to see my own short film on the big screen, and hear the live reactions from the audience, including my family and friends.
Media night gave me some really valuable insights into what I could potentially create for my final Year 12 product, when it is my turn next year. I was really impressed by the cool camera angles, interesting concepts, and all the different ways the current Year 12s structured their products. Seeing all their interesting products opened my eyes to many ideas I had never thought about before, and how I could use them in a piece of my own.
Ultimately, Media night is something that you do not want to miss! For any current or future Year 10 or 11 Media students, Media night is an awesome opportunity and a really enjoyable experience to be a part of, so if you haven’t already, consider taking up Media in 2025!
