STATE ATHLETICS

On Monday 21 October twelve of our finest athletes competed at State Finals at Lakeside Arena.

Melbourne turned on the weather for us, a perfect sunny day but it soon got quite hot at the Arena with the temperature and with our results!

Already our athletes were winners before the day had even started, making it to State level is a phenomenal achievement. All athletes should be proud of being the best eight in the State already.

We had some standout performances with Allegra Orso (Year 11) taking home a State record and three gold medals in the 100m, Long and Triple Jump. Archie Sideridis (Year 7) coming first in 800m and 1500m and Hugh Du Toit (Year 11) coming first in the 110m hurdles!

Other podium finishes included:

  • Luka Sideridis, Year 10: 800m (2nd place) & 1500m (2nd place)
  • James Spencer, Year 12: 400m (2nd place)
  • Harry Robertson, Year 10: Long Jump (2nd place) & Triple Jump (3rd place)
  • Alex Koulatsos, Year 12: Long Jump (3rd place)

Other results from the day were:

  • Jasmine Chilco-Burns, Year 8: Discus (4th place)
  • Harry Robertson, Year 10: High Jump (4th place)
Christina Tan, Year 11: Hurdles (4th place)
  • Sophie Arbaitman, Year 7: 1500m (4th place) & 800m (5th place)
  • Luca Sirianni, Year 7: 400m (7th place)
  • Anushka Mehta, Year 7: Discus (8th place)

Well done to the athletics squad on another outstanding season.

YEAR 7 GIRLS HOCKEY: SMR CHAMPIONS!

As Kingston Division Champions the team advanced to the SMR finals on Wednesday 30 October at Hawthorn Hockey Centre.

We had to play three other schools - Mt Eliza, EMC and Frankston.

We won our first match against Mt Eliza 8-0.

Our next game was more of a challenge as we were down 1 - 2 against EMC. Our star players Ella Graham and Luna Dunlop managed to tie the score with only a couple of seconds left. This allowed us to remain undefeated.

In our final match against Frankston, everyone was super tired, but we pulled through and left with our heads held high with a convincing win of 9-0. We were so thrilled to have scored 19 goals for the day!

Thanks to Mrs Hooper for training / coaching and supporting us.

We are looking forward to Monday 18 November at Footscray Hockey Field where we will try and make history and get into the McKinnon Hall of Fame with a State Title!!

Go McK!!

The Gun team consists of:

Ella Graham (Co- captain), Luna Dunlop (Co- Captain), Victoria Damasoliotis, Marija Glavinic, Isabelle Hogarth-Scott, Khloe Huang, Anjali Parthasarathy, Miranda Sacks, Daphne Sandhu Sanabria, Talia Sumer, Kirsten Wong and Sofia Norman (injured).

YEAR 7 BOYS HOCKEY - SMR CHAMPIONS!

On Friday 25 October the Year 7 Boys Hockey team defeated both Frankston High School and Dromana High School to be crowned the Southern Metropolitan Champions.

Improving through the day the Year 7s played with enthusiasm and organization, dominating play to pepper the goals in both halves of their matches and keeping their opponents scoreless.

Ye Guo and Lucas Hanson stood tall as the teams full backs defending stoically with goalie Etaash Jha, while the rest of the team ran all day. The boys look forward to playing in the State Finals in November.

YEAR 7 BOYS TABLE TENNIS: SMR CHAMPIONS!

The Year 7 Table Tennis Boys Team consisting of Vasileios Dimitrakopoulos, Thien Dinh, Horatio He, So Nagayama and Kevin Wang represented the school at the Southern Metropolitan Region Finals. Fresh from their dominant display at the Kingston Division Finals, the team had further reason to be confident of a good display with the return of Vasileios who was away on holiday in Greece.

Throughout the day, the team put in an excellent performance and progressed with relative ease into the final against Dromana Secondary College. The competition was good and we were challenged by some excellent play. McKinnon were able to win 4-2 and secure 1st place.

Congratulations to the five students involved! We will be excited to see how they travel at the State Finals in a month's time.

INTERMEDIATE BOYS TABLE TENNIS: SMR FINALISTS

On a beautiful Thursday morning on 24 October, the McKinnon Table Tennis Intermediate squad arrived at Dandenong Table Tennis Centre in our bus.

We versed three challenging teams in Pool B: Melbourne High, Hampton Park and Noble Park. Powerful bonds have been forged throughout the tournament.

The well-rehearsed A team were locked in and ready to unleash on the day. In the first match we put up a good effort and scraped up a victory against Noble Park.  Sadly, in the second & third round we put up a good fight against Melbourne High & Hampton Park but didn't succeed.  We had fun on the day and hopefully we can win next year.

Thanks to Mrs Hooper for stepping in and taking and supporting us on the day.

Anton Pototskyy (Year 10) (Captain), Bailey Morgan (Year 10), Vibhan Jivanjee (Year 10), Jal Shah (Year 9) & Isaac Leung (Year 9)
