Year Four - Spotlight on Learning
Dear Parents,
This week in Mathematics the students learned how to locate objects on a map, before creating a map of their classrooms. We continued to read our novel "Storm Boy", discuss vocabulary from this text, and write an information report about the novel's setting, the Coorong. In Religion, we looked at the Eucharist, its meaning, and explored the scripture of the Centurion's servant and how it relates to the Mass. In Social and Emotional Learning, the students investigated how gender roles are portrayed in the media, and in Auslan students learned how to sign 'I know', 'I don't know', 'I remember', 'I think' and 'I wonder'.
Religious Education focus:
This week Sister Julie is visiting to talk about the relevance of the Eucharist, and the students will compare the relevant scriptures to parts of the Mass.
Mathematics focus:
For Mathematics we are partitioning numbers up to 2 decimal places, writing the expanded form of these numbers, and then using decimals in financial contexts.
English focus:
For English we will continue reading "Storm Boy" and use vocabulary related to the text. The students will use note taking skills to gather information for their report about the Coorong. All of the year four classes are enjoying improving their typing skills on the typing software, and we will continue to investigate the different parts of simple, complex and compound sentences.
Social/ Emotional Learning & RRRR:
This week we will begin to discuss positive gender relations by focussing upon the word "Respect". The students will consider what respect looks like in terms of the things we might say and do in particular situations.
Auslan:
Next week's focus will be family related signs, such as dad, mum, sister and brother.
