Year Two - Spotlight on Learning
Dear Families,
On Thursday students in Year 2 participated in our 'World Dance' incursion. We learnt about dance, music and cultures from around the world. Our incursion took us on a journey across five continents. First, we went to Africa and did Assiko dance. Next, off to North and South America for some Latin American dancing. Then, we headed to Europe and learnt Spanish Flamenco dance moves. Finally, we went to Asia and took part in Indian Bollywood dancing. We ended the session with a dance party and used musical instruments. Students were invited to wear traditional clothing while they danced.
Next week we are learning...
Religious Education: In Week 9 Damascus Community along with the Jerusalem Community will have our Term 3 Mass. Families are invited to join on Wednesday 11th September at 9:30am in the Church. The theme for our Mass is 'Ask and You Shall Receive'.
Mathematics: We are starting our unit on money. We will be looking at the different coins and notes used in Australia, how to calculate amounts and how to solve for change.
English: We will be looking at how we respond to texts in personal and creative ways as well as incorporating adverbs into the sentence structure. Our spelling rule this week is revising the five jobs of the Silent Final E.
Spelling | true, five, pursue, observe, castle, rattle, surface, describe, whinge, balance |
Vocabulary | eventually, bulging, patiently, gradually, cautiously, tireless, immediately |
Auslan: This week we are revising our content learnt in Unit 6 in preparation for our end of term assessment.
Social/Emotional Learning & RRRR: Over the next couple of weeks it is Child Protection week. We have been unpacking the Child Safety and Wellbeing child friendly policy and discussing strategies to use when we feel unsafe.

Reminders
Reading every night is important to help children to learn new vocabulary and comprehension skills. Students in Year 2 are encouraged to change their readers twice a week and read daily. This can be to a parent, sibling, pet or even a teddy. We teach students that reading a book more than once helps us learn - that is why we read the same big book together each day during the week. If students prefer, they can read books that they have at home.
Just a reminder that while we are not a nut-free school, we have many students with allergies in our community, including one student with anaphylaxis. Please be conscious when packing lunch boxes.
Friday 20th September - Last day of Term Three - Students invited to wear sports clothes of their favourite team
