Year Six - Spotlight on Learning

Dear Families,

As we near the end of Term Three, our students have impressed with their sustained effort and positive behaviour, as well as the evident academic growth we have witnessed as we assess their learning. We look forward to a strong final two weeks of term before the students enjoy a hard-earned break.

Religion

In week 8, we learned about the charitable deeds of Mother Teresa on her Feast Day, Thursday 5 September. Students explored how they could be inspired by her wisdom and emulate her kindness.

Mathematics

In mathematics, we continued our study of conversion between metric units by looking at mass. Students explored a variety of strategies for converting between milligrams, grams, kilograms and tonnes. They also looked at practical applications by adding and subtracting the masses of objects. Next week, students will be looking at capacity and how to convert between millilitres, litres and kilolitres.

English

We completed reading the novel "Once" by Morris Gleitzman, which left many students eager to read the sequels - the next book in the series is "Then" for those interested in continuing Felix's journey. Students also published their Poland information reports, and wrote both a narrative and an additional information report about Germany under timed conditions. These provided the opportunity for students to implement everything we've learned in writing this year: text structure, sentence structure, punctuation, vocabulary and literary devices.

SEL/RRRR

In our Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) program, we discussed Positive Gender Relations. The students engaged in meaningful conversations about respect, equality, and the importance of fostering positive relationships with peers of all genders.

AUSLAN

We are learning more signs, like 'I think', 'I know/I don't know', 'I remember' and 'do you know?'. You can help at home by asking the students to demonstrate signs they have been practicing.
