Year Six - Spotlight on Learning
Dear Families,
Week 7 has been another hectic week for the Bethlehem Community. After the success of the city camp, students have fully immersed themselves in Interschool sports and Fathers Day activities.
Interschool Sport:
During the recent interschool sports competition, our students truly embodied the school’s values, displaying exceptional sportsmanship throughout the day. Whether it was on the T-ball field, the European handball court, or the AFL pitch, our teams played with heart and integrity, always encouraging one another while respecting their opponents. Though we didn’t come away with victories in those events, our Volley Stars team shone brightly, winning their match with skill and teamwork. The students’ positive attitudes and commitment to fair play made the day a true success, reminding us all that winning isn’t everything—it's how we play the game that counts.
Fathers Day Morning:
At the Year 6 Community breakfast morning, fathers and special male family members gathered to celebrate their bond with their children. The morning kicked off with warm smiles, friendly greetings and the aroma of fresh pastries. The special guests enjoyed a relaxed breakfast together, sharing stories and laughter. After refreshments, the room buzzed with excitement as everyone got creative, crafting paper airplanes that soared across the hall, each design a unique reflection of the maker’s imagination. The group then dove into crosswords and word searches, working side by side, solving puzzles. The event was filled with connection, teamwork, and the joy of simple pleasures, leaving everyone with cherished memories of the special morning spent together.
Religion
We continue to examine the hidden meaning of the Eucharist and how it is relevant today. The symbols and meanings were examined as students created their own drawings of this important ceremony.
Mathematics
In mathematics, we have started to explore measurement and length. Students were engaged in converting cm to meters and kilometers. Real world applications using classroom objects helped them better understand how to and why we use the different measurements. We tuned students in using problem strings so they could discuss various ways students arrived at their answers for the above problems.
English
We are almost at the end of reading Once by
Morris Gleitzman. It has been a gripping tale with even the most restless student thoroughly engaged. The story which has been told through the eyes, of an initially very oblivious, child has resonated with the student body. Students marveled at his lack of comprehension as to his dire circumstances. The story highlighted the atrocity of World War 2 and increased the students understanding of that era. The subsequent information report on Poland cemented their blossoming knowledge.
SEL/RRRR
In our Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) program, we discussed Positive Gender Relations. The students engaged in meaningful conversations about respect, equality, and the importance of fostering positive relationships with peers of all genders.
AUSLAN
We are learning more signs, like guitar, piano, close and open doors. You can help at home by asking the students to demonstrate signs they have been practicing.
