It is wonderful to share with you all the exciting things that have been happening at Deer Park West this week and what will be happening shortly.
Book Fair
The students have been extra excited to visit the library this week. The book fair has provided students with an opportunity to purchase books to take home. It was terrific to see so many families coming into the library sharing a love of books with their children. Thank you to our Library Technician, Ms Cathy for organising this terrific event. The last day for the Book Fair is this Friday (afterschool).
Celebration of Learning
We look forward to seeing families at the end of term Celebration of Learning on Wednesday the 3rd of September at 2:30-3:00pm. This is a great opportunity for families to visit their children’s classroom and share what they have been learning about during Inquiry learning.
Father’s Day Stall
The Father's Day stall will be held on Thursday the 4th of September. Remember to pay your $5 (cash only) by this Friday. The students love selecting gifts for their dad or a significant other person in their life.
School Council Meeting
With the recent rain, wind and cold weather, it was great that we could conduct last Tuesday’s school council meeting online. Ms. Hua shared more about the outstanding NAPLAN results; the mathematics competition and other progress made in the area of curriculum. Ms. Scott also shared details about the work completed on our facilities including confirming that the turf will be replaced on our basketball court during the school holidays.
We are also needing to do more work on our speakers in the Emily Day building and new speakers will be added outside to ensure that announcements can be heard clearly in all parts of the school, especially the oval.
Shortly we also look forward to replacing the old shed with a new bigger version that can keep our items safe from the weather.
Zoo Excursion
The Foundation students came back looking very tired after their exciting day at the Zoo. Thank you to the Foundation team for their organisation and the additional staff and parents who also attended. Look out for next week’s newsletter for photos and information.
Year 1 Dinner
As part of our ‘camping program’ the Year 1 students stayed at school until 6pm. During this time they played games such as “Duck, duck, goose” (I bet some parents remember this game from their childhood) as well as watching a magician and sharing a pizza dinner. Look out for next week’s newsletter for more photos and information.
Reminders & Upcoming events:
