Year 4/5/6

Over the past two weeks, our class has been on an exciting journey through The Grandest Bookshop in the World. Students have developed an understanding of its imaginative characters, rich language, and creative storyline and genre. Inspired by the text, they are now writing their own narrative, developing characters and orientation, building actions, problems and solutions all while experimenting with descriptive language to engage their readers.

NSW Stage 3 English Outcomes:

EN3-RECOM-01: Fluently reads and comprehends texts for varied purposes.EN3-UARL-01: Analyses ideas in literature and adapts them in writing.EN3-CWT-01: Plans, creates, and revises texts using correct grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary.

Geography has taken us on a different journey, we have been investigating renewable and non-renewable energy as part of our unit on planning for a sustainable future. Students explored the environmental impact of different energy sources and have started planning their own cities. The students are making decisions about how to power their city using a mix of renewable and non-renewable energy. This activity sparked thoughtful discussion about sustainability and the choices communities face when balancing energy needs and environmental care.

To bring this learning to life, we are also planning to construct our own solar ovens/dehydrator a fun, hands-on way to experience renewable energy in action. (when the sun comes out!)

Stage 3 Geography Outcomes:

Develops understanding of human–environment interactions.Uses geographical inquiry skills to investigate and communicate information.Applies tools and language to design and present solutions.

Book Club

It’s also wonderful to see how our students’ love for reading is growing. This enthusiasm is especially evident in those who attend our Book Club. The discussions are quite boisterous and shared recommendations show just how much they value and enjoy stories and possibly the hot chocolate and sneaky treats even more.
