Kinder/Year 1

In Science this term, K1 have been investigating how things move in a unit, How Forces Can Change How Objects Move. We began by investigating how living things move, and then we proceeded to examine how objects can be put into motion. Did you know that objects move differently depending on their shape and the surface on which they are moving? We learned that friction impacts how well an object moves. We examined games, traditional and cultural toys, to observe how motion is used to play games.
Lastly, we observed push and pull forces and how these are used in making rides and games for amusement parks and carnivals. Our culminating activity was to apply all this knowledge by creating a carnival game with a partner. The success criteria included knowing what forces were used (including gravity, which is a pull force) and working together to use cardboard and other basic materials in our classroom. We have examples of marble runs, laughing clowns, car racing games, bean bag toss, putt-putt games and foosball.
