Music Corner

Oh. My. Goodness. We have our music room back!
As musicians, we’ve always been creative when it comes to finding spaces to learn—whether it’s hot or cold, we’ve managed to make it work. But having lessons and band back in our creature-comfort space this week has been nothing short of FABULOUS! Everything we needed was right at our fingertips, and there were no long hikes to get where we needed to be. A huge thank you to everyone who pitched in to refresh our space and get everything back in order. Now, if only we could track down our TV remote batteries… and that elusive stapler!
Band update
Our Star Wars piece is coming along. While we still tend to fall apart around bar 21, it’s not nearly as often—or as badly—as before. Some groups are now proficient with the entire piece, and with constant practice, everyone will continue to strengthen their muscle memory. Trombones: a little extra focus on the middle section will help you push through to the end. To keep things interesting, some students have also started working on solo or duet pieces.
Counting is so, so, so important! This is where many students slip up. Reading music out loud—including the note and rest counts—helps us internalise the rhythm and play together in time.
Lesson schedule
Flutes no longer have Monday lessons.
All students should ensure their instruments are at school on Tuesday.
