St John’s students love having the chickens at school. All the money we make is put back into buying food and other necessities for them.
Please support our Environment Leaders by coming by for a chat and maybe even buy something! All of our senior students spend some time caring for the chickens as well as students from any level who work hard at Chicken Club. Our Gardening Club students are also very involved in growing fresh produce which will hopefully be ready to harvest and sell soon. Having a mini stall before assembly allows students to interact with customers and handle real money, skills that are becoming harder to practise!
Gardening with Jan!
Jan and the gardening club have been growing fodder for the chickens and this week they were able to harvest and bundle it up. We then strung the bunches up for the chickens to enjoy a tasty treat!
Jan and the gardening club continue to meet at lunchtimes on Thursdays. Everyone is welcome!
St John’s- A Wrapper Free School - PLEASE Help us to reduce our waste!
The winners for weeks 4 & 5 are.....
1/2A and 1/2B
Did you Know?…
Did you know, chickens actually NEED to eat pebbles or shell grit?Chickens eat rocks, stones, and grit to aid in normal digestion. Chickens swallow food whole, as they lack teeth.
When left to forage over a larger area, chickens naturally pick up grit in the form of tiny pebbles. They store grit in the gizzard and when the gizzard moves, the food is ground with any grit inside. The gizzard essentially works as the chicken's teeth!
Thanks for your support,
