Life in the LRC

2025 Children’s Book Week

Next week is Children’s Book Week. 2025 is a milestone year as it marks CBCA’s 80th anniversary.

The library will be running competitions and activities each day of the week (18th -22nd), with the help of our new Library Assistant team.

Students should pop in and see our display, have a look at the shortlisted books, and check out the WINNING books in each category. We have all the books recommended for secondary students right here in our collection and available to borrow in the eBook platform.  The school’s Library Homepage currently offers a range of Book Week related puzzles, story starters, templates and book reviews for you to view.

We’d love for you to come in and join in the fun of Book Week.  Here is a list of our daily events/activities:

Monday: Where in the World Quiz

Tuesday: Eye Spy micro-photo adventure

Wednesday: Where’s ‘Wally’?

Thursday: UNO Championships

Friday: Match the Teacher to the adventure

Please support our brand-new Library Assistants if you see them around the school wearing Book Week 2025 badges!

Library Assistants Program

Last week the LRC held their first Library Assistants meeting.  We were pleased to have so many students come along and express their interest in being a part of our team. Our new Library Assistants will kick off their library related roles this week as we head into CBCA Week.  Our students are encouraged to bring to the table their own personal strengths and skills, whether it be in a creative, written or verbal way.  In addition, they will gain new work experience skills that they can add-on to their resume.

Interested? Pop into the library and grab a pamphlet or see Mrs Ford or Ms Beavis.

Award-winning State Library of Victoria Excursion

Did you know that Melbourne’s State Library of Victoria is among the top 10 beautiful libraries in the world?

The LaTrobe Reading Room at the State Library of Victoria

A global literary tourism initiative, “1000 Libraries” placed Victoria’s library in 7th spot.

South Australia’s State library gained second place. It’s director, Megan Berghuis, said “For Australia to have two internationally recognised libraries in that top 10 ‘most beautiful libraries in the world’ is significant.”

Excursion Opportunity – Limited numbers

The LRC are pleased to announce that we will be offering an opt-in excursion to visit Melbourne’s beautiful State Library on Wednesday, October 15th with Mrs Ford and Ms. Beavis. Spots are strictly capped at 20, so you will need to be quick in expressing your interest. The day will include a visit to this iconic library, the honour of purchasing a book to take pride of place in our school collection, and a chance to visit local bookstores within our great city.

We are excited about the many plans we have in store for our school community and look forward to sharing many photos and articles from these events.

Have a novel day,

Mrs Ford & Ms Beavis
