🔹Ventia – A Day of Discovery

On 25 August Year 11 VCE VM students were given the opportunity to explore a wide range of facilities on base at Puckapunyal. From the Fire Station and Lands and Environment to Sport and Recreation, a tour of the industrial kitchen plus the opportunity to dine in Tobruk OR’s Mess for lunch, the day was packed with experiences and great hot chocolate. The fascinating tour of the Defence Maintenance team gave students a real insight into specialised career pathways while walking through the tracked and armoured vehicles, infantry personnel carriers and even armoured tanks!

Students enjoyed learning in real-world environments and the day opened their eyes to so many different career options. Many thanks to Seymour Coaches for providing us with a “free shuttle” for this excursion. It was a memorable and inspiring day.

🔹Hands on Trades @ Winton

On 14 August our Year 11 and 12 VCE VM students attended the Hands on Trades & Careers Expo at Winton Motor Raceway.

With 56 exhibitors on site, students explored a wide range of career pathways and enjoyed hands-on activities, including trying out a truck simulator, operating an excavator, and even testing their welding skills using VR goggles.

The expo gave students a valuable opportunity to connect with training providers, industries, and trades, while gaining real insight into the services and courses available across North-East Victoria.

The highlight of the day was its interactive, “hands-on” focus - designed to inspire young people to explore trade careers and discover the many opportunities available to them. For our students, it was a chance to broaden their horizons and take meaningful steps in planning their future careers.

🔹Real-World Experience: Mock Job Interviews

As part of the Seymour Puckapunyal Youth Partnership with Ventia, our students recently stepped into the world of work by taking part in real-life job interviews. Each student prepared a professional resume and cover letter tailored to a career pathway of their choice - and even dressed the part to make the experience as authentic as possible.

It was inspiring to see students rise to the challenge, showcasing their strengths and learning how to present themselves with confidence. Many took the chance to ask thoughtful questions and seek valuable feedback from their interviewers - gaining insights into areas for improvement and how to take their next steps.

This experience was more than just practice - it was a glimpse into the future, helping students build the confidence, skills, and professionalism they’ll need as they prepare for life beyond school.

🔹Year 12 PDS Community Projects

Our Year 12 VCE VM PDS students have continued to plan and implement their community projects. We are overwhelmed with the great response we have had to both our clothes collections and pizza day order form.

Thank you to everyone who made donations to our clothing drive, we are currently sorting and organising the clothes for delivery.

We look forward to a busy and successful pizza lunch on Friday.

🔹Book Week Story Trail

A huge THANK YOU to the VCE VM students who designed, promoted, and hosted our very first Book Week Story Trail

PLC junior students rotated through six engaging story stations and were left “spellbound” as they listened to each adventure tale.

Hearing stories read aloud by our senior students - complete with costumes, sound effects, and lively expression - was the perfect experience for our juniors. Their smiles and laughter said it all!

We hope the Book Week Story Trail will become a much-loved annual tradition.
