What a week to have camp! Even with chilly temperatures, gusty winds and the endless rain, we have all had an excellent time! As the weekend approaches, we encourage everyone to enjoy the warmth of their own beds and rest up for a busy few weeks to end the term.
We look forward to sharing some photos from our adventures in our classrooms on Open Afternoon in Week 9. We will also include some in the Week 8 newsletter.
What's coming up in the Classroom:
Literacy: During Weeks 7&8, students will focus on persuasive genre of reading and writing. They will explore what creates engaging and effective text, audio and visual advertising material. This will link in with our inquiry work, allowing students to dedicate time to produce materials for their inquiry project. Students will also continue to work on personalised reading and writing goals through personalised 1:1 conferencing and small-group targeted work. We encourage students to continue working on their reading stamina at home with texts of their choosing.
Maths: We are working on our final 2 maths projects dedicated to decimals, fractions and percentages. We ask that students have the Google app ‘Sheets’ installed to complete the final project. This is on the School App List for 2025. During Weeks 7&8, we will also launch a House Points Challenge to encourage students to be well versed with their multiplication facts. A letter and email will come home with your child’s starting knowledge and explain key details of the event.
Inquiry: We are now reaching the tail end of our project as we approach our expo in Week 9. We encourage students to bring in all required equipment needed for their session in Week 7. We will have only 1 session dedicated to inquiry in Week 7, and plan to have possibly 3 in Week 8.
Respectful Relationships: The next topic we address in this unit is power relationships between genders. We will learn to recognise the impacts of our actions towards others.
Willy Kids: During weeks 7&8, Willy Kids are learning about the importance of perseverance. We will reflect on how we persevered on camp and how we can use this skill going forward.
Hosting Whole School Assembly:
Inquiry Expo:
On Tuesday 16th September, 5/6 students will be presenting their designs in an exhibition to the whole school. From 3pm, we are inviting parents and carers to attend and see the wonderful efforts of our 5/6 groups. This will take place in the Gallery. All visitors to the expo will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite design. The top 5 will head to the final Shark Tank event the following day.
On Wednesday 17th September, all 5/6 students will attend the presentations of the final 5 products. The final 5 will be presenting to a panel of ‘Sharks’ seeking investment. The panel will determine our final winner. This year’s panel includes some local faces who work in design and marketing, real estate and even our own business manager from WPS.
Warm regards,
