Wear it Purple Day
Once again, Williamstown Primary School staff and students would like to acknowledge Wear it Purple Day. When we acknowledge and celebrate the Wear it Purple organisation, we strive to foster supportive, safe, empowering and inclusive environments for rainbow young people. By wearing purple, Australians demonstrate to rainbow young people that they are celebrated and respected, acknowledging all have the right to be proud of who they are and who they are becoming.
At Williamtown Primary School, we believe that every child is unique and special. Our school values of respect, kindness and inclusion guide us every day as we work to create a safe learning environment where all children can thrive. Acknowledging Wear it Purple Day is one way we can demonstrate these values in action. We feel that this is an important day for our community to acknowledge, so students are invited to wear purple tomorrow - Friday August 29th to show their support.
Our Respectful Relationships focus for this term is Gender Norms and Stereotypes, and so students will naturally discuss age appropriate gender related themes with their classroom teachers.
Talking with Your Child
If your child asks questions about Wear it Purple Day, you might explain that we’re showing kindness to all families and all children, no matter what makes them different. It’s about treating everyone with respect and making sure no one feels left out or unsafe.
If you have any questions about Wear it Purple Day or our school’s approach to inclusion and diversity, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
