What's On In 1/2

Narrative Writing

This term, our Grade 1s and 2s have been exploring the exciting world of narrative writing. We have been learning different ways to describe settings, create interesting characters, and build engaging plots. A highlight was watching Pip, which inspired us to write some incredible retells of the story. It has been wonderful to see students’ imaginations come alive as they experiment with word choices, story structures, and illustrations to bring their characters and stories to life.

History – Our Integrated Unit

Our integrated unit this term has been all about history. It was amazing to see the special pictures and artefacts students brought from home and to hear the stories connected to them. Each child had the opportunity to share precious memories with the class, which helped us reflect on how objects can help us remember special people, places, or moments from our lives. To build on this, students have stepped into the role of journalists, interviewing an older family member about their childhood. We are looking forward to hearing the fascinating stories that emerge from these conversations!

Mathematics

In Maths, we have been diving into multiplication and learning how to understand numbers through grouping. Students have explored how to build and count groups in hands-on ways, using counters, drawings, and everyday objects to make sense of “equal groups.” A real highlight has been creating our very own class books of worded problems, where students wrote and illustrated multiplication stories for others to solve. It has been fantastic to see students’ creativity and problem-solving skills flourish throughout this concept.

Book Fair

This term, we were lucky to host the Scholastic Book Fair at our school. It was such a joy to see so many students and families visiting the fair and sharing their love for books. In class, we were able to go and create our own wish lists, and the excitement was contagious as students discovered new favourites and chatted about the books that caught their eye. Events like these remind us of the joy that books bring and help foster a lifelong passion for storytelling in our students.
