What's On In STEM

This term, our Junior Scientists have been exploring the vastness of Biology! Our students have learnt that biology is the study of living things so, understandably, there is quite a lot to discover! From the ocean to the sky, plants to animals, there are so many interesting things to uncover! One of our favourite areas of biology so far is an animal we are already quite familiar with - humans! We have been exploring our five senses (although we know that humans have more than just five senses) and how these help us navigate and understand the world around us. This was a perfect opportunity to incorporate the mentor text, Jetty Jumping, and we used this text to help us imagine all the things our senses might experience at the beach and in the ocean. We have also been learning about different organs in the body, and all the amazing ways they work together to help us live and function in our everyday lives. From learning the extraordinary way our lungs help us breathe, to the disappointing discovery that the human heart is not actually shaped like a love heart, there have been so many things to learn as we move through this term’s exploration of Biological Sciences!
