Dear Wollert PS Families,
Firstly, welcome to the relaunch of our newsletter! We will continue to build the content in the upcoming issues to support our families in connecting with the school. It is also important to note that the newsletter can be translated into many languages through the viewing platform. We are also looking to showcase what is happening in learning communities in future editions.
What I Have Noticed So Far
Thank you to the Wollert families for the warm welcome over the past couple of weeks. It has been wonderful to visit the learning communities and see families during drop-off and pick-up times. I also enjoyed taking tours last week as we welcome new families looking to join our learning community.
I have observed vibrant learning communities, with students engaging in phonics during the morning sessions and hands-on mathematics tasks in the middle of the day. The love for specialist subjects is evident, as students participate in Physical Education, Playscape, Visual Art, Cooking, and STEM activities to expand their learning and embrace challenges. The Year 5/6 area is buzzing with excitement as students engage in the School of Life projects, leading up to a market day at the end of the term.
Students have shared the school values of being kind, being brilliant, being curious, and being joyful with me. These values will guide us our expectations we have for all learners. I look forward to sharing more of my observations and the celebrations over the year.
Book Week Celebrations
Book Week celebrations are here! This year's Children’s Book Week will run from Saturday, August 16, to Saturday, August 23, and the 2025 theme is 'Book an Adventure!'
2025 is a milestone year as we celebrate 80 years of Children’s Book Weeks in Australia! For eight decades, this event has been dedicated to inspiring young minds and allowing them to explore the countless worlds that books offer.
Throughout the week, students will dive into the joy of reading—exploring, connecting, and celebrating the magic of stories.
We will hold our annual Book Parade in the Gym on: Thursday, August 21, from 2:30pm to 3:00pm.
Students are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book characters or in a way that fits this year’s adventurous theme! We would like to extend a big thank you to all the Wollert families who supported the recent Book Fair, which concluded on Monday, August 11. The total amount of books sold was $6,410.70 at Book Fair, enabling the school to raise $1,923.20 for purchasing new books in our learning spaces.
Workforce Update- Prep C
As we communicated on Compass, we want to inform you that Janine Ceola will be on leave until Monday, September 8th. During her absence, the replacement teachers for your child will be Harpreet Kaur and Simardeep Saini.
We are pleased to share that both replacement teachers are familiar with our school, have experience teaching across all grade levels, and are regular casual relief teachers (CRTs) at Wollert Primary School and we have putting supports around this to support the students over the period. Please join me in wishing Janine all the best during her leave. We look forward to welcoming her back in early September.
We Want Our Parents/Caregivers/Guardians to Tell Us What They Think!
Our school is conducting the annual Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and seeks your feedback. The survey is designed to help schools understand families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. While participation is optional, we encourage and appreciate your input.
The survey results will assist us in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs, informing our school planning and improvement strategies.
The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey has opened online from Monday, August 18, to Friday, September 19, 2025. A random sample of parents/caregivers/guardians have been selected to participate in this year’s survey. The survey will be conducted online, takes only 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at your convenience on desktop computers, laptops, tablets, or smartphones.
Please reach out to the school directly at 9002 0500 for survey guides in your language.
Important Reminders: Planning for 2026 Enrolments
We have finalised our outcome letters for our families regarding the 2026 Foundation enrolments, and we are excited to welcome new members to Wollert Primary School. Just a reminder that parents can access the school enrolment form by visiting the school office during opening hours or by calling the main office for more information regarding Foundation enrolments for 2026.
I recently visited our local kindergarten at Kirrip Community Centre. It was lovely to see the excitement on the children's faces when I talked about coming to school next year, especially about playing in our playground!
Safety Reminders
This is a reminder that the staff car park is designated for staff use only. Parents are not permitted to use this car park during drop-off and pick-up times. Please remind your child that riding bikes on school grounds is not allowed for safety reasons, especially during dismissal times. To ensure everyone's safety, students must walk their bikes and scooters to the bike shed once they are on school premises. Thank you for your cooperation.
Finally, a big congratulations to the students who represented Wollert PS at the District level for Athletics! Over 40 students from Years 3-6 participated in the carnival last week and put forth an amazing effort in their events.
I hope you are all having a great week and enjoy the book parade tomorrow with some staff costume surprises!
