Year Two Team News
with Steph, Joel and Rochelle
The Grade Twos have been working hard while learning about how to write simple and complex sentences. During our Writing sessions, we have also been exploring students' opinions through persuasive writing. In Mathematics, we have been problem solving with division using sharing and grouping. Our students have been discussing gender and identity, and concepts of fairness and equity during our Childwise and Respectful Relationship lessons. It has been a busy term so far and packed with learning.
Important news and reminders:
Curriculum Focus: Weeks 5 and 6
Literacy: In Reading, we will be looking at strategies to improve comprehension, such as making inferences. Making inferences is the process of combining clues from the text and prior knowledge to understand what is read.
Numeracy: We will be focusing on multiplication and division using money and work on fractions of a collection.
Inquiry: We will be continuing to learn about toys from the past and discuss how toys have changed over time. We also analyse why these changes have been made and discuss whether these changes are positive or negative, or a mixture of both. We will be using our oral presentations to stimulate many thoughts and discussions about this.
Willy Kids: Through the pillar of Resilience, we are learning about bouncing back from challenging situations and discussing what qualities and strategies are required to assist us to do this.
Respectful Relationships: This term, we are focusing on Gender and Identity. We will be exploring a range of activities that will support students to reflect on their identities: likes, dislikes and strengths. Moreover, students will develop an awareness of positive and negative gender norms, challenge negative gender norms and develop an appreciation of difference. If you would like some further information, please contact your child’s classroom teacher.
Until next time,
