Basketball Brilliance: Junior Girls Take the Zone Title

Thirty secondary students represented our school at the CSSA Zone Basketball Gala Day in Berkeley at the start of August. Despite limited preparation the Junior Girls went undefeated throughout the gala day and claimed the overall championship.

A big thank you to Mrs Toole, Mr Cowley and Mr Curran for coaching and supporting the teams on the day.

"On the 8th of August, the school basketball teams went to the Zone Basketball Gala Day. I played for the 15 & Under girls team. My team only had a couple of people that played basketball out of school. We went into the first game losing at half time but by the end we had won, 23-19. We ended up winning all of our games. Because we won, we have now made it to the State Basketball finals. I am very excited to play and represent the school at State." - Chelsea T (Year 7)

Year 5/6 Netball Team State trip

On Thursday 7 August some excited Year 5 and 6 girls travelled to Penrith to play in the CSSA Primary State Netball Gala Day.

Way back in May the girls won the Zone gala day in Kiama, so had the opportunity to attend the State competition. Even though Zone seemed like a distant memory the girls continued to train hard in preparation for State. Often attending extra training or borrowing netballs during their lunch break to shoot goals and refine their passing techniques. They also enjoyed playing a game against the Year 7 girls in the lead up to the day. Thank you Year 7!

Even though the day started with really early travel (a big thank you to the parents who drove and became our cheer squad) and some cold drizzly weather it didn’t dampen the teams enthusiasm. The girls played some fantastic netball remaining undefeated in the five pool games. They were also really good sports encouraging each other and the players on the other teams.

Winning their pool meant they made it through to the quarter- final round. This meant they were amongst the top eight teams in the State which is such an amazing achievement. They faced very tough competition from Penrith Christian School but played hard and never gave up.

Even though they were defeated by a few goals and didn’t progress through to the final rounds they were winners in my eyes because of their perseverance, determination and encouraging attitude. It has been amazing to see how the girls have grown and refined their skills as netballers throughout this year. They have been an absolute delight to coach.

Big Effort, Bigger Experience: 15&U Boys Take on CSSA State Football

Sixteen enthusiastic students proudly represented our school at the CSSA Secondary 15&U Boys State Football Finals, held at Valentine Sports Park in Sydney.

It was an early morning for all involved, with a three-hour drive to Sydney and a quick stop along the way to pick up MP. Upon arrival, the boys were excited to be assigned their own changeroom – a definite step up from the Zone event and a great way to kick off the day.

The competition was fierce, and despite the team’s best efforts, we went down in all our pool matches against some very strong opposition. However, spirits remained high, and the boys finished on a high note with a well-earned win in their final game against Wagga.

While the results didn’t go our way, it was a fun and valuable experience for all involved – one filled with learning, teamwork, and memories.
