From the roaring 1920s to the vibrant beats of the 2010s, students are polishing their moves, learning new steps, and bringing their chosen eras to life. The energy in our Performing Arts lessons has been electric, with students showing incredible teamwork, enthusiasm, and creativity.
Our school choir is also hard at work rehearsing a very special song, “Back in the Olden Days”, which reflects on how times have changed through the years. This touching and entertaining piece will be a perfect complement to our decade-themed dances and will have the audience smiling from start to finish.
With just a few weeks to go, the dedication from both students and staff is shining through. We can’t wait to share this celebration of music, movement, and history with our school community.
Years 1 and 2
Students from Years 1 and 2 have recently commenced a Soccer Unit, focussing on developing our foot-eye coordination. We used the game of traffic lights to ensure we could dribble at different speeds and created our own obstacle courses to practise manoeuvring the ball with control. We then applied our dribbling and trapping skills to an "Under the Sea" game.
Years 5 and 6
The Year 5 and 6 students have been working on their skipping skills to develop coordination and stamina. They are aiming to choreograph skipping routines to music later in the term.
They have also been participating in a Volleyball unit, practising digs, sets, and serves, and have started to apply them to minor games.
Science Week – Celebrating Curiosity, Creativity & Innovation!
Over the weekend, some of our amazing students took part in the Science Talent Search. Congratulations to all of the entrants on your fantastic efforts! Your creativity, problem-solving, and hard work shone through. A special thank you to everyone who participated, you should all be proud of what you achieved.
I was invited to be a judge on Saturday at the Science Talent Search and thoroughly enjoyed seeing so many clever inventions and well-constructed models. The ideas were inspiring, the explanations thoughtful, and the passion for science was truly alive.
Back at school, our week has been filled with hands-on investigations, creativity, and plenty of “aha!” moments.
Year 5/6
Using recycled materials, students created vibrant artworks inspired by famous pop artis, Roy Lichtenstein. This project blended science and art, exploring how reusing everyday materials can reduce waste, while also producing eye-catching designs.
Year 3/4
Built and raced balloon rockets, then investigated the science behind them. The key principle here is Newton’s Third Law of Motion: for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. As the air rushes out of the balloon in one direction, it pushes the balloon rocket in the opposite direction.
Year 1
Investigated different textiles and their properties (soft, rough, stretchy, strong) to design and create their very own simple rag doll toy. Alongside this, we’ve been rehearsing a special play that tells part of the history of our school—combining creativity, storytelling, and history in one project.
Prep
Put their engineering skills to the test! They built simple machines to create art, and used recycled materials to make levers that could launch a marble across the mat. This was a fantastic way to explore forces, motion, and cause-and-effect thinking.
Thank you to all students for your enthusiasm and to the families for your ongoing support in fostering a love of science. This week has been a wonderful reminder that science is not just about facts—it’s about curiosity, creativity, and the joy of discovery.
