Year 5 & 6

Around our level

On Monday 28th of August, 38 Year 5/6 students represented our school with pride at the Senior Hooptime Basketball event held at Kilsyth Stadium. It was an action-packed day where all the students worked hard to display their basketball skills and our school values of Respect, Kindness, and Safety. Students showed true team spirit in every game they played. Well done to all involved! We are proud to share that four of our teams made it through to the grand final, with our All Stars Girls team winning and earning a place in the regional finals, an amazing achievement! A huge thank you to our wonderful volunteer coaches for their time and for all the supporters who attended and helped with scoring and cheering on the teams throughout the day!

The students who did not attend Hooptime participated in a variety of activities in the middle area of the 5/6 building. They enjoyed collaborating with peers from different classes. During the first session, they created an alliteration sentence and illustrated a page with pictures starting with the letter they had chosen. Their inspiration was taken from the book, ‘Animalia’, by Graeme Base. The middle session involved the students researching information about the decade their class is representing for our ‘100 Years Celebration’, followed by a quick-thinking drama game called ‘Spacejump’. After lunch, students used a selection of materials to design their ideal school or adventure park. Overall, a fun filled day and their behaviour was exemplary.

This week the students have started preparing their rooms for ‘Yarra Road through the Decades - 100 Years Celebrations’.

On Monday the 28th of July, the school kids participating in Hoop Time got on the bus and drove to Kilsyth basketball stadium. It was so amazing with all my friends in my team to work together and score and just generally have fun and share the ball around.

Hoop time was an amazing day. We played at Kilsyth basketball stadium and it was lots of fun. I was in a team with Ivy, Zoe, Ashlea, Imogen, Giselle, Charlee and Chloe. We were in the All Stars and we won all our games and we made it to the Grand Final and won.

After the Hooptime kids left on the bus we started our activities. In the morning we made an Animalia. You had to pick a letter and make a poem. My letter was T. We ate snack and went out to play. After recess we researched our decade for 100 years and played Space Jump. Space Jump is a game where you have to improvise. After lunch we hand made a Theme Park. It took some thought and time but it was great and worth it. The day was so fun with all the activities.

I stayed  at school but I still had a great day in the B E R. We sat with our friends and talked for a bit then we started the alliteration. We were taking notes from the book Animalia, Mrs Haysom read it with us then we started to do an alliteration poster for any letter we wanted. Then we did research for our decade, which mine was the 1970s. Then for a little fun, we played Space Jump, I have not played Space Jump before so I took notes of how to play the game. At snack I understood how to play so I gathered my friends to play and we had a blast! After snack and lunch Jamie and I made a theme park with the class. Jamie and I made our theme park at the beach. We installed a water slide into the ocean, two umbrella trampolines and a roller coaster! Then at the end of the day all of us talked about the decade dances.

At school, we did an Animalia poster with alliteration, we played spacejump with funny situations and Marcus and I made a musical theme park.

So I did Hooptime and my team was really good until the last game, so I will tell you about it all. In the first game we played one of the Rolling Hills teams and we won. In the second game we played Billanook Bears and we won 14 to 13, in the third game we played SPJ and we won 21 to 4, and in the fourth game we won 19 to 14. That meant we made it into the grand final but sadly we lost to the other Billanook team.  Everyone did their best. The next day we got powerades from the coach called Josh. It was the best day ever.

I was at school and I enjoyed playing Space Jump. If you don't know how to play Space Jump it is where there are up to 4 people playing and there is a person that calls Space Jump. The first person acts out something until the person calls out Space Jump. Then the 1st person needs to freeze and whatever the freeze of the first person was, the 2nd person needs to improvise and think of something that could be related to the freeze of the first person. You could say something like, 'Are you doing push ups?' but it has to be based on their freeze and then they continue to do something until Space Jump is called out again and a new freeze is created.

At Hooptime, we lost the first game, won the second game and lost the last game. We still got into the final but unfortunately we lost. I’m still proud of my team for making it to the final and especially since some people had never played before. My mum came for my 3rd game and watched me then she had to go back to work. I had a good time.

I went to Hooptime. It was a very fun experience as we got to hang out with our friends, watch basketball and most importantly play basketball. It was my first hooptime and it was well worth it. All of us had so much fun. My team lost our first three games but in our 4th game, we won by about 11 and then in our consolation game we won by 6 or 7. It was such a great day.

When I went to Hooptime I had lots of fun with all of my team. I was in the allstar boys team and I loved playing with them. We all had so much fun. We ended up winning 3/5 games. We only lost to one team and we also made the grand final in our division. Sadly we lost by 7 points. We all tried our hardest but it wasn't enough to beat Billanook. They had lots of talented players so it was really hard to beat them. The first time we played them we lost by 3 points, then in the grand final we lost by 7. Overall though I thought we did pretty good and I had lots of fun.

I stayed back instead of going to Hooptime but it was still really fun! My favourite thing was making our own roller coasters. Sophie and I made one called Cream-Town and it was really fun to do! There were 2 roller coasters and a ferris wheel as well as an ice-cream shop! I really enjoyed making it.

At school, it was actually quite fun. We started with alliteration. I chose the letter ‘h’. Playing Spacejump was very entertaining, with the ideas people came up with. When it was my turn going on stage, I decided that we could be finishing a puzzle. I asked if the others needed help to complete it, and they said yes. And to leave the stage, I said I was going to get a drink. Spacejump is DEFINITELY my favorite theatre sport, and I'm always impatient to play it again. Our last activity was creating a theme park or a school. Kaylea and I buddied up and chose to do a theme park. I made some mini fairy floss, and took the project home. I really enjoyed that day, and it was hilarious how many people weren't there. Overall, it was a very good day.
