National Science Week 2025 is here, and this year’s theme “Decoding the Universe” invites students across Australia to explore the mysteries of existence through the lens of science. From the tiniest particles to the vastness of space, science helps us uncover the hidden patterns and forces that shape our world. Whether it's decoding DNA, interpreting cosmic signals, or modelling climate systems, scientists are constantly working to understand how the universe works - and next week, Marist College Ashgrove is joining the mission.
Throughout Week 6, students will have the opportunity to engage in a range of exciting activities (being run by our Year 11 UQ Science Ambassadors) designed to spark curiosity and creativity. On Monday, the Primary students will kick off the celebrations with an Adventure Hunt in the Science Foyer. On Wednesday, students can explore the microscopic world with Pollen Under the Microscope in Biology 1 Lab. Then on Friday, the week wraps up with a hands-on challenge in the Science Foyer: DNA Sequence Decoding, where students will get a taste of real genetic analysis. All events are being held during Break 1.
Science is more than just facts and formulas, it is a way of thinking that helps us make sense of ourselves, our planet, and our place in the cosmos. By decoding the universe, we’re not only learning about the world around us, but also developing the skills to shape the future. And who knows? The next big discovery might come from one of our own students. So, get ready to celebrate the power of science. Let’s decode the universe - together!
