Chadstone Excursion
On Monday 18 August, both Unit 1/2 Business Management classes went on an excursion to Chadstone Shopping Centre.
The aim of this trip was to gather information from the public to assist in our decisions for Market Day. In other words, dedicated time for market research.
We arrived at Chadstone by 9:15am with printed surveys which we created in class. After the roll marking and the group photo, we were released into the largest shopping centre in the southern hemisphere. Throughout the day, we interviewed anyone – from employees, parents and even other school students – to meet the quota of 30 completed surveys.
The Chadstone excursion was a valuable experience for all of us. It taught us key communication skills through in-person interviewing, an important skill for anything – not just business. The day also allowed us to put our learnings of market research into practice, from the planning to the execution and eventually to the analysis.
Finally, the excursion gave us an opportunity to evaluate the demand of whatever we would sell on Market Day, to understand if our business idea was viable and would meet customer expectations.
This allowed us to make the relevant tweaks and adjustments for our Market Day business, which was a primary goal for the excursion.
2025 Market Day a Resounding Success!
Our 2025 Market Day was a fantastic celebration of creativity, entrepreneurship, and community spirit! Students from across the school showcased their innovative ideas, running stalls with everything from delicious treats to handmade crafts. The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement as students applied their business skills in a real-world setting, engaging with customers and managing their own mini enterprises.
The event was not only fun but also impactful. A total of $1,562.80 was raised and will be donated to a variety of charities chosen by each group, including the Nephrotic Syndrome Foundation of Australia, Cancer Council Victoria, Make-A-Wish, Transit Soup Kitchen Narre Warren, and more. This generous contribution reflects the hard work, teamwork, and social responsibility demonstrated by our students.
Congratulations to all participants for their creativity, enthusiasm, and commitment. Market Day 2025 was a true showcase of our students’ talents and the strong sense of community within our school.

Market Day
Market Day is often the highlight of the year for many ½ Business Management students, on Market Day, students ran businesses/stalls in groups in hopes of raising money towards their selected charities.
This year Market Day ran on September 12 2025 throughout lunchtime, before that, student groups spent period 4 preparing to set up their stalls around d the courtyard, the hectic nature proved that despite the 8 weeks of meticulous planning the groups did, managing a business for even one day is a lot more complicated and requires skills beyond the usual curriculum.
This year we saw a large variety of stalls as numerous student groups set up stalls around the courtyard selling a variety of things including bracelets, stickers, soft drinks, donuts, jewellery and even a photobooth. Our stall was situated near the gym selling a variety of ice creams and soft drinks and at 1:40pm we ran the water balloon stall where students could pay to throw water balloons at their fellow teachers. (I would like to thank Mr Rule and Mr Monaco for agreeing to stand still and face an onslaught of water balloons).
I believe the best thing about Market Day is seeing the hard work of the past term pay off and seeing large crowds gather around the stalls. For me, seeing the huge crowd gather around our water balloon stall to watch created an atmosphere of excitement and enthusiasm at our stall and made everyone’s time more enjoyable, regardless of if they paid or not.
By the end of lunch, stalls began to sell out and the groups spent the final period cleaning up and calculating their total revenue and profit. This year's Market Day was another big success as most groups recorded a profit, and some were able to raise upwards of $300 for their selected charity.
I would like to thank all the students that came to Market Day on Friday to support their school stall, including students who took time out of their study periods (especially when SACS are approaching) to help us and other groups help set up the stalls (as well as do some free advertising for us).
I would also like to congratulate the other Market Day groups for their hard work over the past term and of course I would especially like to thank Mr Sacco, Mr Armistead and the rest of the Nossal Staff for making Market Day possible and ensuring everything runs smoothly as always. I’m already excited to see what the next cohort of ½ Business Management Students will do on Market Day next year.

Yakult Incursion Newsletter
On the Monday 8 September, the VCE Unit ¾ Business Management classes had a member of Yakult come to Nossal to explain their operations. It was a highly enriching experience, as it allowed real life insights on how the Business Management content works within a large corporation, such as Yakult.
The representative, Kate, gave us a virtual tour of the facilities, taking us through the production line of a Yakult bottle from the bacteria to the final packaging.
We learnt about the stringent quality control measures present within Yakult, and how they use technology effectively to maximise the efficiency of their operations. Kate also told us about the significance of corporate social responsibility within their business model, and how they are always striving to ensure that they reduce their impact on the environment, the general community and their employees.
At the end of it, we all received a complimentary Yakult bottle, which was much appreciated!
All in all, it was a great opportunity for Business Management students to learn about the real-life applications of things we learn and was a great bit of revision going into our final examination.
