Year 11 Mock Interviews

On Thursday 21 August, a large section of the Year 11 cohort took up the opportunity to take participate in 'Mock Interviews' with a tertiary education focus - a great way to practice what it’s like to be in a real interview. Each interview lasted about 10 to 15 minutes, and students were asked questions around different topics like Academic Excellence & Aspirations, Leadership & Initiative, Community Involvement & Social Justice, Overcoming Challenges & Personal Growth, Future Goals & Contributions, and Reflection & Values.
The interviews were a great opportunity to help prepare students for real-world job or college interviews, as participants were given a chance to practice their interview skills in a professional formal setting.
After the interview we all received valuable feedback from the interviewers on how we spoke and any tips on how we can speak and present ourselves in any future interviews. This helped students to boost their confidence and improve communication skills.
The mock interviews also gave Year 11 students a better idea of what professional interviewers are looking for and why it’s important to be prepared. We got the chance to practice answering questions clearly, organise our thoughts, and showcase our skills and experiences. It wasn’t just about speaking confidently – it was also about thinking about our achievements, values, and future goals, and learning how to present ourselves in a professional and authentic way.
"I got valuable feedback from my interviewer, Mr Roger Page, which I can use in future interviews and also when I might be talking in professional situations, so I think the having these mock interviews were a great opportunity." - Arpita Nayak
"I’m very grateful for the feedback I received from my interviewer, which I can apply in future interviews and professional situations. Participating in these mock interviews was an invaluable opportunity." - Riaz Maan
"To be honest, I didn't want to do it at first, but I'm so glad I did because it pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me develop the confidence and skills I needed for future interviews. I think this experience would be really helpful for others too, especially if they feel hesitant at first." - Jessie Hao
A big thank you to all the many Nossal staff who helped setup and run the interviews, and a special thanks to Nossal Alumni Staff: (Roger Page, Keith Butler, Michelle Desaulniers, Ian Pegram), Berwick Rotary (Diane Scheepers, Isobel Caulfield, Penny Williams) and Federation University Staff (Peter Folino, Diana Stevens, Sarika Deokar, Grace Diep) for giving up their time to run these interviews and for making this event a very valuable experience for us.
