Year 9 Science

Our Year 9 Science students have been exploring the world of Waves this term. From playing with slinkies to model transverse and longitudinal waves, to investigating how heat energy is transferred, and experimenting with light boxes, students have had plenty of hands-on opportunities to deepen their understanding.

They have developed skills in calculating wavelength using the wave equation, drawing and interpreting light diagrams, and explaining energy transfer through conduction, convection, and radiation. Students have also considered real-world applications such as double glazing and how it reduces heat loss – an important example of science in everyday life.

Victor Chang Science Award

We were also delighted to celebrate the achievements of two of our senior students. Congratulations to Rhitt and Vivan (Year 11), who were recipients of the prestigious Victor Chang Science Award. This award recognises outstanding young scientists who show great passion, innovation, and potential in the sciences – well done!

Chosei High School and Science at Nossal

Nossal’s recent visit from Chosei High School students from Japan brought lots of fun and collaboration. Together, we explored science at Nossal through demonstrations with Mrs Graystone, including “Hands on Fire” and a very popular hands-on activity – making slime!

Science Week

Thank you to all students who participated in our daily Science Week Quiz. Congratulations to Wilbur in Year 12 who won and received our Science Week prize. And we must congratulate our Teacher Team who were the winners of the Science Week Trivia.

The Year 12 team gave it their best shot but were unable to come away with the points!
