MUGHS Workshop

On Thursday 11 September the Year 9 students participated in the Global Hunger Games workshop conducted by Melbourne University's Global Health Society.
We were first allocated different countries to be citizens of. Then we were given a task of creating as many paper cranes as we could. However, there was a catch, depending on the country you were allocated you received different amounts of paper to make cranes with.
The paper symbolised resources which we would then use to make paper cranes. The paper cranes depicted money which were used to purchase food tokens and more resources from the UN. The amount of paper your country received was impacted by factors such as economic status and population. The aim of the game was to make sure that every citizen in your country had at least one food token.
This workshop educated us on all the factors that influence food allocation. This included the economic disparity between countries, the number of resources that a country has, the differences in labour forces, etc. This workshop was an extremely engaging way to learn about these aspects.
