SAFETY WALKING TO AND FROM SCHOOL
Please ensure you remind your child/children about what to do if they feel unsafe on the walk or ride to / from school. Talking through possible scenarios helps them to plan how they would solve a problem and keep themself safe in an unforseen situation. One of the best ideas is for them to ride / walk as a group with others. For you, being aware of the time a walk / ride takes and discussing why that is important is also a key link to a young person gaining further independence.
Some examples to problem solve could be -
a flat tyre on their bike,
a stranger asking them for directions,
a friend suggesting to ride in a different route, not discussed with parents
a car following them
a friend hurt after a fall off their bike
a stranger telling them to get into their car
Any unsafe behaviour / people should be reported to the school and the police.
