At the end of last Term we finished our Inquiry unit with an expo that we presented to the school and our families. The students were really proud of the hard work they had done throughout the term.

We are really excited to be back for Term 4 and can't wait to get into all the amazing things we have on this Term!

Current Learning

English - In Reading, we have been exploring different strategies to help us understand texts in greater detail. We have practised skills such as making connections, asking questions, and identifying key information to deepen our comprehension. We have also worked on sequencing story events to assist us in understanding what we read.

Maths - In Maths, we have moved back into a unit on Place Value.  We have started by developing our understanding of the place value systems, teen numbers and rounding.

Inquiry - This term in Inquiry we will be exploring how we can be future innovators and look forward to putting our creativity and design skills to work!

SEL - In SEL we have begun by learning to identify our personal strengths and positive characteristics.

Supporting Your Child's Learning at Home

If you are looking for ways to support your child's learning at home you may wish to try some of the ideas below.

Reading

  • Enjoy the take-home readers each night to build fluency and confidence.
  • Read poems, comics, or magazines to explore different types of texts.
  • Ask questions before, during, and after reading to help your child think about the story and its meaning.

Writing

  • Practise writing sentences using capital letters and full stops correctly.
  • Use phonics knowledge to sound out and spell new or unfamiliar words.
  • Experiment with using different sentence starters to make writing more varied.

Maths

  • Practise skip counting by 2s, 3s, 5s, and 10s starting from a different number.
  • Play card or board games that involve adding or subtracting numbers.
  • Read analogue clocks together and talk about different times of the day.
  • Practise subtraction strategies such as counting backwards or using a number line.

Take Home Reading

In Year 2, students change their readers on the same day they visit the library, bringing home two new books each week. Reading the same books multiple times during the week helps them understand different parts of the text and develop a deeper overall comprehension.
