Junior School

Prep AA, 1/2MK & 1/2BD

1/2 BD and MK.

Can you believe we are finishing off term 3 already! Well done to all the year 1 and 2 students who have just gone above and beyond in making this such a great term.  We look forward to hearing all the wonderful adventures everyone got up to during the holidays! Bring on term 4!

Literacy

Reading

The focus on collaborative learning continues to be a main theme in our reading lessons. Students have been able to explore new books, vocabulary and facts through adventuring into different areas within reading.

During the last weeks of term 3, our main theme has been learning about Aboriginal and Torre Strait Islander people and their culture. We have looked deeply into comparing our lives to the lives of different indigenous Australian children. It has been interesting for not only the students but the teachers to gain an appreciation and awareness on how different people live and how we can appreciate different cultures and beliefs. It has opened up many great conversations and exploration to further the students learning.

Chair on Strike!!

Unfortunately on Tuesday the chairs had enough and went on strike! The students were quite motivated to formally apologise and receive their comfortable and useful chairs back. Working without chairs was a special experience for most (we did see some pretty adventurous use of seats). Thankfully the students wrote great persuasive pieces and convinced the chairs to come back. We will never take them for granted again!

Maths

Over the past few weeks, we have been exploring the concept of measurement. Students experimented with informal tools before moving on to formal tools like scales to measure weight and mass—a clear favourite!

To extend their learning, both classes -1/2BD and 1/2MK collaborated for several lessons. This provided wonderful opportunities for peer teaching, teamwork, and shared problem-solving.

We have enjoyed a wonderful term of learning and are excited for an even more amazing Term 4, filled with fresh discoveries and fun experiences.

The Past in Your Class Incursion

Last week our Year 1/2 students stepped back in time with a visit from the National Trust’s The Past in Your Class program. A costumed educator shared what life and school were like in the 1870s, letting students compare “then and now.” They tried old-fashioned classroom routines, handled replica artefacts, and discovered how children learned without today’s technology. The incursion linked perfectly to our history unit on change over time and sparked wonderful conversations back in class. Ask your child what surprised them most about school in the past!
