From the Principal

Mr Jon Franzin

Dear Parents, Students and Friends of St Virgil’s College,

As we approach 2026, the College is actively engaged in planning for the future, including finalising student subject selections, establishing timetables, and confirming staffing arrangements. Part of this process involves advertising for new or replacement teaching staff to ensure we continue to meet the needs of our dynamic learning community.

Following the recent departure of Mrs Mooney, the substantive position of Assistant Principal – Religious Identity & Mission is being advertised this week. This is a vital role that ensures St Virgil’s remains faithful to Catholic teachings and EREA Touchstones while supporting the spiritual life of our students and staff.

Additionally, Mr Thymon Venter will be returning to his hometown of Brisbane next year to be closer to family and friends. Mr Venter has made a significant impact on our students through his roles as Head of House, Director of Student Wellbeing, and most recently, Acting Assistant Principal – Religious Identity & Mission. His substantive position as Director of Student Wellbeing will also be advertised this week.

Mr Mark Narkowicz, Junior School Music Teacher, has informed us that he will be relocating to Victoria early next term due to family reasons. While this decision was undoubtedly difficult for Mr Narkowicz, it is the right choice for his family. His position will be temporarily filled until the end of the year while we work to appoint a permanent replacement.

Mrs Kelsey Batchelor, College Psychologist, has shared the wonderful news that she is expecting her first child at the end of the year.  This is an exciting time for Mrs Batchelor and her family. Her parental leave position, a 12-month contract, has been advertised, and we hope she will have the opportunity to conduct a handover with the successful applicant next term.

We will take the time to thank and farewell Mr Narkowicz, Mrs Batchelor, and Mr Venter before their departures, acknowledging their valuable contributions to our College community. They will be greatly missed.

As this is the final newsletter for the term, I wish all students and families an enjoyable holiday and safe travels for those heading away during the break. A reminder that Friday 26 September, will be a student-free day, and I look forward to welcoming students back on Monday 13 October, for the start of Term 4.

Best wishes for the week ahead.

Jon Franzin
