PRINCIPAL

In this final week of Term 3, it appears that spring has well and truly arrived, bringing some delightful weather. Things will soon dry out, and pastures are already transitioning to the reproductive phase. This means that haymaking is just around the corner and will be a major focus for staff and students next term.

This was the final week for most of our Year 12 students, and I commend them for finishing off their schooling years positively and cooperatively. My thanks to the staff for keeping the Year 12s engaged and entertained throughout the week. For most Year 12 students, we won’t see them until graduation on November 7th, except for the General Extension students who will return for final assessments next term.

It is important for families to read and understand the various dates and times for assessments and the graduation itself that have been communicated to you earlier.

Farm Skills

This week, we had two teams of students compete in the Farm Skills competition at the Perth Showgrounds. My thanks to Shaun Lawrence, who oversaw the training and management of the teams.

Perth Royal Show

My thanks and best wishes to Steve Adams and his team of students who will be showing our ewes and competing in various events over the first week of the Royal Show.

Retirement

Families and community members may have heard that I intend to retire at the end of this year. After 38 years in agricultural education, it is time for me to move on to other things. This is not a decision I have made lightly, and I have significant mixed feelings about retirement, largely regarding no longer being part of the Harvey Ag family and the broader system, which has been such a large part of my life.

I love being part of the Harvey Ag family and the broader agricultural education community, and I will miss the camradery, as well as the shared sense of purpose and success. I feel honored to have been the Principal of Harvey and to have been involved in other roles at Harvey since 1998.

Have a great weekend and holiday period for those who are lucky enough to have holidays.
