Principal's Report

Dear HPS Community,
What a week we have just had! Coming toward the end of term means all the learning and skill rehearsal that has been taking place across curriculum areas are at a stage of being applied and transferred in various ways. It is an absolute joy to see the curiosity and engagement levels so high as students demonstrate their understanding and discover new things. I never tire of those 'Ah-ha' moments when children make connections from prior learning to new.
Pat Cronin Foundation presentations, Jump Rope for Heart final jump off day, science experiments with popcorn, ink and water, development of individual cultural booklets and an Aboriginal Culture incursion workshop, Japanese market day preparation, poetry recitals and the list goes on....
Next week for the last week of term, I know that many families are being welcomed in on certain afternoons to see the showcase of learning projects in some year levels. We hope everyone enjoys speaking to the children about what they have learnt.
Whilst we understand and appreciate the challenges many students have with the current reduced play space, there are a number of strategies in place to assist in the interim.
Many lunchtime Enrichment clubs are being very well attended, sharing and cooperation of 4 square courts are being negotiated and scheduled timetabling of the oval and 9 square game are enabling each year level to have their opportunity to play. Also, over the past two weeks we have had staff take a number of interested year 5 and 6 students with local excursion permission, to DeWinton park during the lunchtime break. We thank staff and students for their flexibility and willingness to adapt is noticed and appreciated.
Don't forget it is a 2.30pm finish on Friday 19th September!
Before and After school Supervision
School grounds and students arriving are actively supervised by staff from 8.40am. Before school care is provided at SAC from 7.00-8.45am for students who require being at school prior to active supervision beginning.
For further information, please refer to the Before and After School Care Supervision - Parent Notification Policy.
Mobile Phones and cellular devices
Students are not to have access to any cellular devices (mobile, smart watch etc) at school, as per our Mobile Phone policy. If a mobile or smart watch does need to come to school, it must be handed to the teacher at the start of the day so it can be securely locked away, and then be returned to students at the end of the day. Students are asked not to use devices on school grounds as they enter and exit the premises. This policy is in place to minimise distractions and promote a focused learning environment.
In emergencies, parents should make contact to their child through the school's general office.
Footy Finals Fever - Dress Up in your favourite sporting club colours
With many sports and clubs hitting the ultimate finals time, students are being invited to come dress up on the last day of term in their fav footy colours!
Not into footy?! No problem.... Come dressed in your favourite sport club colours!
Weather permitting, we will hold a parade at 2pm at the COLA, prior to the 2.30pm finish time.
Looking forward to seeing lots of red and black on the day :-)
