Kookaburra Class

In 3/4, we’ve packed so much fun and learning into this past fortnight. The 3/4s are truly getting into a great routine and this gives us more time for rewards and fun. With new carpet going in today, we have had to pack up half of our room and are working in the Art Room for the day. It will be marvellous having new carpet, especially in the uncarpeted hallway.
Reminders for parents:
*Hats in Term 4
*Reading Diaries (please help your child locate theirs and let me know if it is lost)
*20 mins of home reading Monday-Thursday completed with adult supervision
*Drink bottles filled with water daily
This fortnight we have hit the ground running with our core learning:
Reading – Our focus is on fluency. Students are practising reading aloud and aiming to attain a rate of 125–165 words per minute, with accuracy and expression. They are tracking their own progress with a partner as they aim to become confident, fluent readers.
Writing – Students are working on information reports about an animal of their choice. Using a mentor text as inspiration on the Australian Pelican, they are learning how to organise their writing with sub-headings. The writing process is being emphasised: planning, drafting, revising, editing, and finally publishing their polished reports.
Mathematics – In Maths, students are learning strategies for subtraction using number lines and column subtraction. They are learning how to represent their thinking clearly, and to check the reasonableness of their answers by using these different methods.
Congratulations to our Student of the Week!
25/08/25 - Phoebe, for displaying Grit when challenged, Responsibility in all areas and for being a Respectful learner. Your reflections on Storm Boy have been simply amazing. Clever stuff!
01/09/25 - Stella, for having Grit when learning how to follow expectations in class, and Responsibility for your learning. I truly value your contributions and hard work Stella! Keep it up!
