Stronger Together: Year 12 Vocational Major Students Inspire Confidence and Connection at Streeton Primary

Ms Marnie Hay

Over the course of 2025, our Year 12 Vocational Major (VM) students have been making a meaningful difference in the lives of Grade 3 students from Streeton Primary School through a heart warming and high-energy community project titled “Stronger Together: Fun Fitness Games.”

As part of their Unit 4 – Personal Development Skills subject, the Year 12s took the lead in planning, delivering, and reflecting on a series of fitness-focused sessions designed to promote health, confidence, and connection. But what began as a health initiative quickly grew into something far more impactful, a weekly highlight for everyone involved.

Our students didn’t just run games, they built relationships. From the very first session back in term 2, it was clear that the bond between our VM students and their younger buddies was something special. Grade 3 students lit up every time the Year 12s walked through the gate, eager to engage in fun, active games and learn from their older role models. This project wasn't just beneficial, it was beloved by all.

The sessions focused on inclusive movement games based on fundamental skills, but the true outcomes extended beyond physical fitness. Through laughter, teamwork, and mutual encouragement, both groups developed a stronger sense of self-confidence, leadership, and community spirit.

This harmonious collaboration wouldn’t have been possible without the generous support of Streeton Primary School’s Principal Leon and former Greensborough College staff member Jake, whose vision and openness created space for this wonderfully collaborative win–win.

Their support helped make this partnership not just a possibility, but a true highlight of the year for our VM students.

From fostering inclusion and healthy habits to inspiring younger students to believe in themselves, our Year 12s have truly shown what leadership and compassion look like in action.

Well done to our Year 12 VM students! You’ve proven that stronger communities start with stronger connections.
