Curriculum Innovation 2.0 Framework the way of the Future

Curriculum 2.0 refers to a progressive educational framework that aligns teaching practices with contemporary learning demands. 2.0 is a curriculum that sets out the knowledge and skills every student should learn during their first 11 years of schooling to become lifelong learners, confident individuals, and active and informed citizens prepared to navigate a diverse and changing world. (VCAA, 2025).

Term 3 has been a busy term at Greensborough College as all learning areas prepare for a transition to delivering Curriculum 2.0 in 2026. With teachers working closely with their Learning Area Leaders to map and align the college curriculum alongside the Curriculum 2.0 framework, a plethora of enriching curriculum offerings have been produced.

Integral to curriculum design is clear planning. Greensborough College has spent much of 2025 and most of Term 3 refining developmental rubrics, embedding regular and timely feedback cycles for assessment design and delivery and ensuring AI is integrated into our curriculum policy documents through the meticulous planning and review cycles that take place in the Curriculum Committee.

The Curriculum Day held on September 3rd was evidence of the high-level planning and innovation that takes place in each learning area- with learning areas producing a rich tapestry of curriculum offerings for 2026. Whether teams were updating old units of work or producing new units it was clear all teams worked tirelessly to produce as much curriculum documentation as possible and the college thanks all teachers who contributed on the day.

With 2.0 outlining clear cross-curricular priorities and capabilities including:

  • Critical and Creative Thinking
  • Ethical Capability
  • Intercultural Capability
  • Personal and Social Capability
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures
  • Asia and Australia’s Engagement with Asia
  • Sustainability

The college is committed to continuing to embed First Nations’ pedagogies and perspectives into our curriculum and it is exciting to see many teachers across the college already innovating in this space. 2025 has seen the introduction of an Indigenous herb garden bed for VM and Food Tech students to cook Indigenous inspired recipes from First Nations’ plants and Science has updated handbooks and curriculum content to include more First Nations perspectives. As our college curriculum continues to expand and grow it’s important to reflect on the wise words of curriculum expert David de Carvahlo:

So schooling, while preparing our children as best it can for the changing world of work, is going to need to focus more on those aspects of humanity that are exclusively human and vitally important for our development as communities. School leavers will need human skills that are not easily replicated by machines, such as creativity, problem-solving, adaptability, ethical awareness, emotional self-regulation, teamwork and critical thinking.

I’d like to welcome Amy Lord to the position of Curriculum Innovation in 2026 and thank Greensborough College for the wonderful opportunity to lead the curriculum over the past 3 years. I look forward to seeing the curriculum flourish in the future.
