From the Principal's Desk

The most recent Catholic saint is Carlo Acutis, an Italian teenager who was canonized on September 7, 2025, by Pope Leo XIV. Known as "God's influencer," Acutis used his computer skills to spread Catholic teachings online and is the first millennial to be declared a saint.

"O God our Father, we thank you for giving us Carlo, a model of life for young people, and a message of love for all. You made him fall in love with your son Jesus, making the Eucharist his 'highway to heaven.' You gave him Mary as a beloved mother, and you made him, through the Rosary, a channel of her tenderness. Through the merits of this Angel of Youth, grant us the grace of a deep desire for Heaven. Through his intercession, confirm our faith, nurture our hope, and strengthen our charity, so that we too may follow Jesus. Amen".

Helping Young Minds Grow with Purpose and Character

At Resurrection School, we believe that education is about more than just academics—it's also about nurturing character and helping to shape the kind of people we want our students to become. One of the most impactful ways to do this is by instilling positive values.

Why Values Matter

Values like kindness, honesty, respect, empathy, responsibility, and perseverance are the foundation for good citizenship and lifelong success. When children learn these principles at an early age, they develop a strong moral compass that guides their actions, relationships, and choices.

Early Lessons Last a Lifetime

Young children are naturally curious and impressionable. This is the ideal time to introduce values not just through words, but through actions and daily experiences. Whether it’s sharing with a friend, telling the truth, or helping someone in need, these moments shape how children view themselves and the world around them.

How We Encourage Positive Values at School

At Resurrection School, we integrate positive education into our daily routines. From classroom discussions and role-playing activities to school-wide initiatives and recognition programs, we create opportunities for students to practise and reflect on values in meaningful ways.

Some of our initiatives include:

  • Whole School Value Focus
  • Positive Behaviour for Learning
  • Religious Education
  • Buddy Programs
  • Classroom Circle Time for Reflection and Sharing
  • Service Projects and Community Involvement

A Team Effort: School and Home

Parents and caregivers play a vital role in teaching these values at home. Simple actions like praising honesty, encouraging responsibility, and modeling respectful behavior go a long way. When schools and families work together, children receive a consistent and powerful message about what truly matters.

Looking Ahead

By fostering strong values in our students, we’re helping to create a future generation that is not only clever and capable but also kind, ethical, and compassionate.

This year our school theme is STEP UP! We are encouraging all members of the school community to Step Up and grow in positive values. The focus values are: our School Reskeys (Respect, Responsibility, Resilience) and being kind, safe, fair, patient, friendly, helpful, honest and thoughtful.

In Term 4, students will engage with the Respectful Relationships Program which staff learnt more about on the School Closure Day on Monday this week. The Program is based on equipping each student with positive values for the present and the future. Please read the Program information in this Newsletter.

Let’s continue to work together to nurture hearts as well as minds.

All the best,

Jane Dunstone
