Year 7 Visual Arts – Exploring Abstraction

Year 7 have been diving into abstraction this term, first creating sculptures and now beginning their paintings. Inspired by the techniques of celebrated artist Emily Kame Kngwarreye, students are developing abstract landscapes of Glen Innes that capture the colours, textures, and feelings of our local environment.

These works will continue to grow throughout the term and will be proudly displayed at our End of Year Exhibition during Presentation Week in Term 4. Here’s a sneak peek of their works in progress!

Year 10 Visual Arts

Students have been exploring how monsters have appeared in art throughout history. From Caravaggio’s Medusa to Bosch’s The Garden of Earthly Delights, Andy Warhol’s Dracula and Arnold Böcklin’s The Plague, students have discovered how artists use imagination, symbolism, and storytelling to bring these creatures to life.

Drawing on these studies and their own unique styles, students are now developing a body of work where they design a monster that embodies a human emotion.

Year 11 Visual Arts Excursion to NERAM

Our Year 11 Visual Arts students recently enjoyed a trip to the New England Regional Art Museum in Armidale to see ARTEXPRESS 2024. The exhibition celebrates some of the best student artworks from across NSW and gave our students plenty of inspiration as they prepare to begin their own HSC Visual Arts journey next term.

They sketched their favourite pieces, shared ideas with each other, and reflected on what makes an artwork powerful in both concept and technique. The visit sparked lots of excitement and creative thinking about their own Body of Work projects.
