Foundation: Mrs Mclay

Wow! What a fun day the whole school athletics was. It was an absolute HIT in Foundation! We cannot stop talking about how FUN it was. Here are what some of the ‘Foundies’ thought were the best bits of the Athletics.

Freyah – Hurdles because I won and didn’t knock any hurdles down.

Pippa – Hurdles because I am good at jumping high.

Everest – High Jump because I am good at jumping and running fast.

Grace – Discus because you get to swing your arm and see how far the discus goes.

Lucy – High Jump because I am good at jumping high.

Finn – 200m run because I am fast at running.

Seb – 200m run because I got to run with my mum.

Oscar – 200m run because I tried my best to catch up to the people in front of me. I also liked the 100m run because I tied with my brother.

Eadie – 100m running race because I came second and tried my best.

Over the coming weeks we will be tying up all of our Term 2 learning. We cannot believe how fast this term has gone and how many amazing learning opportunities we have had and been part of.

Foundation: Grade 1 Miss Emmett

Our Foundation/1 students have been busy little learners this fortnight! In Literacy, we are continuing to build our knowledge of letter-sound correspondences through the InitiaLit program. Students are enjoying learning new sounds and practising blending and segmenting words to help them become more confident and fluent readers. This week, they have also begun creating word chains using the letter-sound correspondences they know — changing just one sound at a time to make a new word. This activity has been a fun and engaging way to reinforce phonemic awareness and build vocabulary.

In Maths, we have been focusing on numbers up to 120. Students have been learning how to count accurately and represent numbers using tens frames and hands-on materials. We’ve also started exploring how to partition numbers into tens and ones, helping students deepen their understanding of place value. There has been lots of excitement as students build collections, group items into tens, and discover different ways to represent numbers.

In Inquiry, students have begun the design process for an exciting project linked to the Design and Technologies curriculum — building their own boats. After exploring different materials and discussing what makes something float or sink, students have started planning and sketching their designs. Once built, we’ll test the boats to see which one stays afloat the longest! This hands-on task is a fantastic opportunity for students to apply their creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

We also had a wonderful time at the Athletic Sports last week! It was fantastic to see all students getting involved, giving everything a go, and doing their best with a big smile on their face. From running races to field events, everyone showed great enthusiasm and team spirit. A big thank you to the families who came along to cheer and support – your encouragement meant a lot!

Grade 2: Miss Wooden

This month, we are focusing on the theme of belonging. Each student contributes to the unique fabric of our school community. To celebrate this, students will be creating family mobiles. These mobiles will feature drawings and descriptions of what family means to them, highlighting their connections and shared experiences. We encourage families to support their children in reflecting on what makes their family unique and special.

Students have been engaging in inquiry-based learning centered around design thinking. This process enables them to identify real-world problems and collaborate to develop innovative solutions. Throughout this project, students will engage in brainstorming sessions, create prototypes, and test their ideas. We invite you to ask your child about their designs and how they approach problem-solving.

These activities not only enhance their creativity but also build essential skills such as teamwork and critical thinking. We are proud of our students and look forward to seeing their projects in action!

Grade 3: Mrs Stock

We've had a fun and busy couple of weeks, with the standout moments being our recent sporting events. The students had an absolute ball at Athletics Day last Friday at P-12. It was heartwarming to see everyone cheering each other on and showing such strong support for their peers. There was certainly no shortage of talent on display, and every student should feel incredibly proud of their efforts on the day.

Another big highlight was the 3/4 Winter Sports held last Thursday. This was especially exciting for our Grade 3s, as it was their first time participating in the event. It was wonderful to hear how much they enjoyed the day—many formed new friendships with students from other schools and loved reconnecting with familiar faces too. A fantastic experience all round!

Our Highlights:

Will- Winning both the 100m and 200m sprints and doing my best in discus. I made a friend at the Winter Sports- Mon's son, Case.

Tom- Winning discus, shotput and javelin. I liked sideline basketball the best at Winter Sports and seeing Francis.

George- Coming second in 200m and the Winter Sports I liked the Pony Express game.

Charlie- I loved High jump and making a new friend at Winter Sports.

Ollie- I liked high jump because I did a lot of front flips. At the Winter Sports, I enjoyed playing Pony Express.

Tully- At athletics I enjoyed discuss and at Winter Sports, seeing my friends from football.

AJ- I liked high jump and playing Bar ball at Winter Sports.

Marla- I enjoyed the hurdles and Football at Winter Sports.

Grade 4: Miss Dove & Mrs McKiernan

The last fortnight has had a real ‘sporty’ focus in Grade 4 with both the Winter Sports and St. Patrick’s Athletics being one after the other.  All the students should be very proud of how they participated and conducted themselves at these events. Many students pushed themselves out of their comfort zone and should be commended for doing so.

In Literacy, we are continuing with the novel ‘Uncle Xbox.’ In relation to the story, we have been learning a lot of background knowledge around British Colonisation of Australia as well as the effects on First Nations Australians and how this was viewed by First Nations Australians as an invasion. This has provided us with lots of information to support our writing focus of Factual Recount in addition to putting the novel into context.

In Maths, we have been working on Data Representation. Students have been learning all about sourcing data; comparing data representations to evaluate relevance and effectiveness and how to use digital tools such as spreadsheets to collate and interpret data. Students have really enjoyed exploring different types of data representation and the pros and cons of each.

We have been learning all about the Sacraments of Initiation during our Religious Education lessons. Students were introduced to the idea that when the community of believers – the Church – celebrates a sacrament, God is present in the celebration. We have spent time becoming familiar with each of the Sacraments of Initiation – Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist – and appreciating them as the basis for Christian life in the Catholic Tradition.

Grade 5-6: Miss Rasmussen

It’s been a busy and productive time in Grade 5/6!

In Maths, we’ve been diving into decimals—exploring numbers to the thousandths and learning how to compare and round them on a number line. It's been a great challenge, and our confidence is growing with every lesson.

In English, we’re approaching the end of our novel Dirrarn. We were relieved to read that Mia will no longer face the bullying and racism she endured, as the person responsible has been moved to another school. We’ve been exploring Mia’s deep connection to her home and country, and what that means for her as she navigates life at boarding school. Alongside this, we’ve been writing factual recounts about Jandamarra—an Aboriginal hero who bravely resisted colonisation. We’ve focused on text structure, paragraphing, and choosing vocabulary that suits the purpose and tone of our writing.

We were super excited to welcome some of our Grade 5 students as FIRE Carriers (Friends Igniting Reconciliation through Education). It was a privilege to have Michael Chisholm from Catholic Education Sandhurst visit our class to speak about the role of FIRE Carriers and share stories about Aboriginal culture.

A big congratulations to Lil and Charlotte, who proudly represented our school in the Lions Club Public Speaking Competition. What a fantastic achievement!

We had a brilliant time at Winter Sports, playing football and netball with students from nearby schools. It was a great chance to build skills, make new connections, and enjoy some friendly competition. We also loved our St Patrick’s Athletics Carnival—a fun-filled day with lots of cheering, effort, and personal bests!

As Term 2 nears its end, we’re proud of all we’ve achieved and are already looking forward to the many exciting things planned for Term 3!
