From the  Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you've had a pleasant week.

This week our Year 3 students have been working together alongside their teachers and peers to learn about the Sacrament of Reconciliation, a sacrament they will receive at 6 pm on Wednesday the 4th of June. Tonight at 6.30pm they will come back to school to participate in a Reconciliation Faith night with their parents. This is such a special time for our Year 3's and we keep them all in our prayers at this time.

Staffing

Parents of students in our middle school areas (Yrs 3, 4, 5's) will be pleased to know that in consultation with Ms. Murphy (our new principal) last night I was able to announce to our staff that Cara Barrett will remain in Year 3 fulltime this year and Erin Robinson will continue on teaching Art. I will return to the Deputy Principal/Learning Diversity Leader position when Ms. Murphy commences as Principal in Term 3. Mr McFarlane will be taking on a new position as a Middle School Coach/Mentor at our school in Term 3, alongside his Wellbeing and Religious Education Leadership positions! Essentially this means that Mr McFarlane will be an additional teacher in the middle school and available to run some targeted programs we have researched for this cohort of the school. We are very excited about these developments!

Petition!

Last week a very enterprising group of year 4 students (Ella, Gianni, Freya, Piper, Chryssa and Olivia) roamed the yard and collected 94 signatures from their peers - signing a petition for longer playtimes at recess!!

Ella and Gianni then created a powerpoint presentation at home that night titled:

Why extra recess time for your students is the absolute best decision you will ever make!

They presented this presentation to me last Friday.

The persuasive language in the presentation was remarkable and very mature for a group of year 4 students.

At assembly this Monday I announced to the school that although we are mandated for teaching a set amount of minutes each day, I was so impressed by the children's initiative

and the presentation that the whole school would get an extra 10 minutes of play at recess time on Tuesday! Gianni and his friends were very popular!!

Division Cross Country

On Monday 10 of our students represented St Bede's at the Division Cross Country at Ruffey Lake Park. These students displayed great resilience throughout the day as they all overcame the steep and challenging course in East Doncaster. A very special congratulations to Leonardo Campagna (11th), Isaac Pulvirenti (11th) and Benny Curtis (2nd) who were successful in making it to the Regional Cross Country which will be on Thursday 12th June at Yarra Glen Racecourse. We wish them all the best.

Morning arrivals

Just a reminder that the gates open at 8.20am of a morning and children  are directed out to the back playground for a play (where there is a staff member on duty) until teachers open their classroom doors at 8.30am.

Running Club

We have been pleased to have had a couple of great turn outs at our recent running clubs. I am sure many of our attendees will benefit from their running practice.  Our running club will continue on Friday mornings 8am at Myrtle Park. Please email Mr Price if you need any further details.

PREP Enrolments - the time to enrol is now!

Prep enrolments are continuing to come in and we are currently organising enrolment interviews.

If you know of someone who is yet to enrol their child please encourage them to do so ASAP. Prep Enrolment interviews are currently taking place.

Assemblies

We would love more parents to come along and enjoy our school assemblies with us! They are now held on a Monday afternoon at 2.30pm in the school hall. This term the remaining assemblies will be in weeks 9 and 11.

Kindest regards,

Amanda
