Amazing 5/6

Term 2 - Week 6

A message from the teachers

It has been an incredibly busy and jam-packed last 2 weeks, with excursions, sports competitions, assessments and even a bit of flu thrown in too.

Last week, the 5/6s went to the Melbourne Museum as part of our First Peoples of Victoria unit of study, and it was an extremely positive and enjoyable day out for everybody. Whether it was exploring the traditional celebration techniques and rituals, their tools and weapons or even their everyday habits, the students were fantastic, and they made some insightful connections to their lives now. They were also spectacular in terms of their behaviour and manners to the people they met, and they did themselves and their school proud.

Winter Interschool sport is fast approaching the climactic Lightning Premiership, and all our teams are taking positive steps forward. The camaraderie and sportsmanship have been special to watch, and teams are also registering wins, filling us with hope for a successful campaign at the tournament. Special shout out goes to the girls softball team, who are playing well, even though they have 5 year 4 girls! I also want to congratulate Lara and Seb, who represented the school at the recent District Cross Country. Both were fantastic on a cold, wet day at Cornish College, and we are proud of you!

As we build to the end of the term, this last week and the coming two or three weeks will contain a large number of assessments for Literacy, Numeracy and Inquiry. Numeracy will focusing on the 4 main operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division,) literacy will feature a number of fictional writing pieces and in inquiry, the students will be asked to make some observations about what they have learned in our First Nations Unit.

The Museum Excursion

Good Afternoon everyone. I am Seychelle and this is Altay and we are here to tell you about our trip to the Melbourne Museum.

On Monday, all the Year 3 - 6s went to the Melbourne Museum in the city. We were going there to learn about Victoria’s First Peoples. While we were there, we learnt about how they lived, how they celebrated and how they looked after the area sustainably.

We also got the opportunity to check out the dinosaurs, including the BER sized Amargasaurus, got frightened by giant spiders, saw how much we were worth in gold and had a look at Melbourne through the years. It was a great day out.
