Wonderful 1

The 0ne-der Stars 1s

Term 2 Week 6 2025 -  Friday 30th May

What have we been up to?

Can you believe that we are already half way through this Term! We’ve had an exciting and busy two weeks in the classroom filled with storytelling, maths challenges, and hands-on learning. The students have been working hard and showing great enthusiasm for everything we’re exploring together.

This week in literacy, our class has been exploring the wonderful picture book Big Rain Coming by Katrina Germein. The story inspired us to create our own narrative together, titled “Big Storm Coming”. It was fantastic to see everyone contribute ideas and work as a team to write a vivid story about the powerful storm. The students showed great creativity and enthusiasm, making the story both exciting and descriptive.

In maths, we continued developing our understanding of the relationship between addition and subtraction. The students have been practising how these two operations work hand-in-hand to solve problems efficiently. Alongside this, we have begun completing assessments to see how well everyone is grasping the concepts. This week, we also started a new topic in measurement focused on Mass. The children are excited to learn about how to measure mass, and we have already started hands-on activities to explore the concept using scales and different objects.

The past two weeks in Geography, we have been exploring the world map, learning about different countries and continents. We also focused on the Australian states, discovering their names, locations, and some interesting facts about each one.

Here are some photo highlights from the fortnight that was.

We explored the relationship between addition and subtraction with fact families!

We had some developmental play to encourage imagination.

Reading  + Writing

Write 2 Learn: There is still a focus on using conjunctions to join sentences, helping students to create more complex and connected thoughts in their writing.

Novel Studies: They'll dive into imagery and descriptive language in books that link to Indigenous Australia, which will help them understand how language can evoke strong images and emotions related to place, culture, and history.

Students are looking at ‘Why I love Australia’ by Bronwyn Bancroft over the next two weeks.

Maths

Students are learning about Measurement. Focusing on Mass and Length.

Inquiry & Science

Geography: Students will continue exploring the topic of Where in the world are we?, which sounds like an introduction to maps, locations, continents, countries, and the concept of place.
